Having decided a couple of years ago to dramatically reduce the number of flight cases that I have surrounded myself with, I sold around five guitars which I promptly replaced with seven or eight. More came in that went out. So after that raging success, this is another attempt to reduce the number of flight cases around me, which will inevitably fuel more GAS until I once again recognise that the fight is futile... However, as these guitars are not getting the playing attention they deserve so I am offering them here.

First a few notes.

1) I am not interested in any trades.
2) I do not tend to respond to low ball offers, it saves me wasting my time and also yours. Last time I offered guitars for sale someone wanted several hundred quid off just to leave their house. I concluded it was an interesting way to incentivise someone who was probably a recluse and left it at that.

Patrick Eggle Macon SC - £3250 £3175 SOLD

Finished in Buck Burst, I have owned this guitar from new having bought it in 2018. Unfortunately, through no fault of the guitar itself, it has been something of a case queen during that time as I tend to prefer S style guitars. As a result, I have decided to move it on to home that will hopefully start to apply some fretwear to it.

One change that I have had made to the guitar was to replace the Mojo pickups that came installed in it with a set of Cream T Scan 1 59 Burst pickups (which I believe were taken from a scan of one of Joe Bonamassa’s guitars). These are four conductor so feature independent coil taps for the neck and bridge pickups (the coil taps were present with the Mojo pickups too). The installation was carried out by the fine folks are Feline Guitars.

This Macon features a mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard, weight relieved mahogany body and a lovely maple top. The sculpted neck heal allows for easy dusty end access. If I recall, this guitar weighs just under 8Ibs.

The guitar comes with its original hard case and is in mint condition.

Suhr Pete Thorn - £2650 £2600 Sold

Here is a lovely Pete Thorn Suhr that again is in excellent condition. I acquired this guitar around 15 months ago but after an initial burst of playing it, it has of late tended to sit in it’s case. The guitar is Pete’s take on Gibson materials used to create his S style vision, chambered mahogany body with a maple top finished in gold, with a mahogany neck and rosewood board with jumbo stainless steel frets. The trem is the latest Wilkinson version that Pete now specifies on guitars bearing his name, these feature the screws that lock the string via the saddle. Otherwise the trem is very much along the lines of the Gotoh 510. The guitar has two Suhr Thornbuckers sounds through which are selected via a 5-way switch. This is where things get interesting. Position 5 on the selector is the neck humbucker in tapped mode, position 4 the full neck humbucker, position 3 both humbuckers on, position 2 bridge coil tapped and the 1st position bridge humbucker on full. In addition to five selector is a parallel switch on the tone control which works on the bridge position. In all it provides a lot of usable tones. The neck pickup even sounds great split. Comes with Suhr fitted hardcase and is in a near spotless condition.

Fender Michiya Haruhata Stratocaster - £1150 £1075 SOLD

Here is an unusual one and I’m tempted to keep it for two reasons 1) It looks fantastic! 2) The neck is awesome.

So, what is it? It’s a daring take on the Strat formula, being a Japan build artist model for Japanese guitarist Michiya Haruhata. He’s worth checking out on You Tube, he’s a fine player.

The guitar itself features an Ash body with a maple flame veneer. The trem is a Gotoh 1996 double locking which is easily as good as any Floyd Rose Original IMO. Pickups are DiMarzio Fred in the bridge, Fender Texas Special in the middle and a Dimarzio Air Zone in the neck controlled via a five-way switch. One nice feature of this guitar is a push/push tone control that allows the neck pickup to be brought in with the bridge or bridge and middle.

The star of this guitar though is the neck. If you are expecting a thin shred neck then you could not be more wrong, it’s full feeling subtle V shaped neck, my rough measurement was around .880” at the 1st fret and to me, is one of the nicest feeling necks of any of the guitars I own. So, why am I selling it? Well, I’ve just not jelled with the guitar and that is through no fault of its own. Other than a small hairline crack on the bass side neck join there are no obvious dents or scratches on the guitar. This one arrived in a gig bag and will leave almost the same way, I’ll swap out the flimsy black Fender bag it came with for a Fender Camo gig bag that offers better protection.

PRS EG3 - £775 - SOLD

PRS’s original stab at a Strat, this guitar features an alder body, wide thin 25” scale maple neck and rosewood board. The pickups are the original Seymour Duncan’s. PRS fitted case included. This guitar is in good condition for an instrument that is over 30 years old, there is one notable crease by the lower strap button (to the left of it) and the usual wear you would expect from a guitar of it’s age that has been played. It had the original PRS John Mann Mil-com trem. There are no cracks along the neck to body join, an area where these are prone to damage. I have to be honest, I’m a little on the fence about letting this one go, but it’s not getting played and it deserves to be.

Yamaha RGX-TT - £475 - SOLD

Here’s something you do not see everyday, a Yamaha RGX Ty Tabor signature model from the early 2000’s. Available in two versions, standard scale length and a Drop-6 longer scale length, this is the standard scale length version. This guitar can be best described as players grade in terms of appearance, with numerous dings and scratches, so aesthetically it is no Goldilox… , but has had quite a bit of money spent on it to ensure that from a playing perspective it plays as well as possible. When it arrived it suffered from several issues so I am not going to Pretend and try and Fool You that it did not, that’s not an effective way to cultivate the The Fine Art of Friendship. Issues included the plastic input jack had perished and the soon after getting it I had an issue with the truss rod. For full disclosure this has now been sorted, but this guitar originally had the Gotoh side adjust gearbox truss rod and no other means of adjustment. There was an issue whereby the bolt for the adjustment sheared, so Feline Guitars to the rescue. They expertly removed a section of wood from the heel of the neck and replaced the gearbox as well as ensure that the truss rod cold be adjusted from the heel end of the neck, so the Gotoh side adjuster can now be used the way Warmoth recommend you do on their modern necks, for fine adjustment, with the main adjustment via the heel end. An excellent advertisement to Jonathan and the crews skills. Feline have also dressed the frets. I’ve included photos of the repair, as well as a few that show the unusual contours of this guitar. The guitar features an SD JB bridge pickups and Vintage Rails in the neck and middle positions with a push button coil tap. This guitar is good enough to take you to sonic Nebraska, ok, enough with the King’s X puns.. This guitar features a Yamaha RGX hard case. There is no trem plate for it (it was missing when I got the guitar)

Duesenberg Caribou - £1550 £1475 Sold

Another case queen, I’ve owned this guitar from new, having acquired it in 2019. Finished in black, it provides the brighter tones that Duesenberg’s tend to be known for and that Duesenberg trem is one of the smoothest around. With Duesenberg case and all associated case candy and is in almost new condition.

I will endeavour to take some more photos of this guitar over the weekend, for now I just have this one online.

I'll never recoup what I've sunk into that RGX after the truss rod issue, but for me the equation was more about keeping an unusual guitar going. It would have been easy to part it out. I bought it for the same reason you site, I love King's X and Ty Tabor, and these straddled the line of being a familiar yet different take on the Super Strat formula really well.

The Macon is glorious. If it wasn't for an R9 that I adore and a Tremonti it would be staying.

You're welcome. I went on a listening frenzy too after getting the guitar, Japan has produced some fine musicians, Michiya being one example and the fusion band Dimension being another.

I'll check out Dimension. Two faves of mine are jazz fusion bands Casiopea and T-Square (also known as The Square). One of my fave youtube videos to play at work is Casiopea vs the Square Full live. An excellent 2h 44 mins of music!
