Single pick up guitar - middle position - what type of pick up?

I'm building a single pick up guitar and I fancy placing a single pickup in the middle - but what pick up should I use? A bridge pickup? a neck pick up? Does it matter?

Cheers

The main difference between pickups calibrated for neck and bridge positions is that the latter may be constructed with increased sensitivity to extract more signal from less string excursion. For tonal reasons, there may also be different magnet formulations and/or copper wire gauge.

Where there is no dedicated middle position model, the usual recommendation is a "Neck" position version.

For some pickup designs, the sweet spot might not be exactly half way between neck and bridge. e.g. Those lap steel things used by Ry Cooder.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.
