Hey guys, when recrowning, what is the maximum thickness I can get away with at the top of each fret after having marked them with a sharpie? Is 1mm too much?

  • 1mm is fine.

  • I tend to take the sharpie line to as thin as I can without taking it off. 1mm should be fine though, as when you polish them up it'll naturally round over anyway. The one sanding job your fingers are perfect for

Ok thanks. I'm building a cigar box guitar with stainless steel frets...which are really tough to work with. Though I made things difficult for myself by taking off too much during leveling

  • Worth the extra effort imo. I use them in about 95% of my guitars now, sound and feel much nicer if you ask me.
