My 97 Fender California Series Telecaster is a joy to play and hear . . . . I've had it quite a few years now, and its just seems to get better and better . . .
Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !

The best guitar ever is the Les Paul. Prettiest, never too strident, as comfy in a jazz club as it is at a metal festival.

However, I will concede that the same can be said of the Tele, aside from the prettiness and it's always strident. To add to Ash's Vardis point, I present Gojira playing stock Teles - no humbuckers here!

    No it isn't.

The best pickups are P90s, so it has to be a guitar with those. For me, they work best in an SG.

Split coil Precision bass. There isn’t really an equivalent for guitar, there’s always some kind of compromise that means there are genres they don’t quite work for, but a good P bass works anywhere I can think of. Plus the ergonomics are pretty decent as long as you don’t get a heavy/neck heavy one, and I like how they look

This is the best and only tele I'll have

    That's an interesting 'Frankenstein' design.
It's better and more versatile than a carved top LP, it gets good tele and LP tones but step on a dirt pedal and it sounds like a great paf in the bridge.

After this I never picked up a normal LP.

I wouldn't want any of the "big 5" electric guitars in unmodded form as my number 1.
    What are the "big 5"?
Les Paul, SG, 335, Strat, Tele. I’ve seen them called that a few times and assumed it was a well-known thing but maybe it’s not in which case my apologies - I wasn’t trying to be obscure.

  • So far, for me, from what I've owned, it's the Duesenberg Starplayer TV. Having said that I do think the Tele is amazing and hoping to get one soon though - I think the Tele I had before just wasn't right for me.

Any of the big 3 Leo Fender designed basses.

Because all guitarists sound crap without it, no matter what guitar they are playing.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Has there ever been a flying tele design? Like a flying V shape but with the tele bridge and pickup set?

Could that work? I might settle for that.

I just can't love a tele. They're like a bodged together prototype that wasn't meant to go into production imo. Mismatched pickups, awkward control layout, agricultural bridge, lump o wood body, Halford paint job, impractical neck shape, etc.

I do appreciate though that there is a bit of magic in there by fluke that a lot of people really like.

A strat feels much more "complete" and almost perfect to use.

I've always thought Gibson guitars were much more like a traditional musical instrument though, not just bits bolted together.

There's no 'best guitar ever' in an objective sense, only subjective.  I have 8 guitars (and another I'm about to put up for sale) - I love them all and the one I consider 'the best' varies from week to week.  I would however say that my one and only Gibson is probably my least best (ahem), but I still like it.  Vive le difference!

  • For me its the strat, I just get on well with one and can get most of the sounds I want. I do have a Telecaster but just don't play it much right now, even though its a nice guitar to play, the only maple fretboard and single coil bridge equipped one I own.
Oh and I might have a thing for Les Paul's. I own 3 lol.
