Seem to be taken over every town I visit nowadays. There's no escape even for remote little gems like Buxton.
My wife figures that if we start a shop that incorporates all of them we'll clean up.

She has a point but I feel incorporating charity and pawn shops under one roof is going to be a lot of hassle. 

What I am curious about (I don't know if it's a nationwide thing) but every nail parlour around here is manned by around 15-20 Vietnamese girls.  Is Vietnam the world leader in nail art of is this just a massive coincidence?

Don't forget the betting shops.Probably the one of the most depressing places you could visit on the high street.

Nothing screams "I've failed in life" more than spending a Saturday afternoon down the bookies.

Anyhoo,been to Marlborough today. No rows of empty shops, no pound or 99p shops, no Primark, charidee shops could be counted in single figures, no Bright House,no supermarket Polska, no sex shops, no tattooists, no massage parlours, no community drop in centres, no cannabis paraphenalia shops, choice of nice looking places to eat or have a coffee. Just a hive of economic activity. Complete revelation that such places still exist. Pretty boring TBH but without the sense of depression to be found on my local high streets.

Marlborough is all right, but I think you'd need to be well heeled to live there.

A manicure
Charity junk... maybe... but you can't check it and for the pence it is, you want to see it
Coffee
and I'd add...
A haircut

In a little parade of shops near me there are, count 'em 8 barbers/ hairdressers!  WTF?  They're all African and all offering the same thing.  I just don't get how they can make a living.

In one of the side parades in Huntingdon, of maybe 8 shops, theres 3 barbers/hairdressers and 5 takeaway/eateries.....

You forgot tanning salons but then I live in West Essex and there's at least 3 on the high street and 2 more just off it.

The one remaining local guitar shop is now a 'Cash 4 Clothes', and a tattoo shop opened next door to that within weeks.  Perhaps they're all in it together!

Tattoo shops are getting silly in some areas. I swear in Swansea there's one every 300 yards.

My little town has 3, I own one of them, when we opened 4 years ago we were the only ones.
