Nice gig for us at the weekend. Small venue, but well attended and the audience seemed really into it.  I thought it went well overall but our drummer was playing with us for only the second time after several months away and we struggled on a few starts/finishes. Think we just need a few more gigs with this line up and it'll be great.

We played the afterparty at the Amex lounge at The O2 as part of Country 2 Country Friday and Saturday nights. Ended up playing almost all covers despite being an original band but had an absolute blast - great crowd, loads of energy and for once felt like I had my tone dialled in right where it wanted it from the start. Also nice to be able to say that Lainey Wilson and Dierks Bentley opened for us  ;)

First time at The Armoury,Yeovil. Nice friendly crowd. A 'special' guy in a bright orange hoody stood right in front of the band smiling at us all the way through the first set. Had a quiet word in the break and he left us alone. Then a couple of lads were kicked out for bothering girls and upsetting them. Soon after a brick came through a window showering people with glass. The actual set went great with people dancing all night and great applause. Pub gigs eh?

Not last night but tonight, I'll forget if i leave it till tomorrow to comment.

Did a support slot for a local acoustic band tonight and it was good fun. Played piano (though it's not a great instrument) and sang, mostly originals and one old folk song. Went well, sang my songs and folks liked them, i could have done more but the host is quite strict on timings. Joined the main band for a few songs playing some honky tonk over the top.

Would love to do more gigs (and actually get paid) but unfortunately i just can't see where i will find venues that want what i do.

Venues won’t really be the driver of your project, if you want to get paid, that is. If others are on your wavelength then you can nurture your own following and then you have a product that venues will be interested in.

It’s never been easier to develop your own thing but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

However, it can still be worth it.

Absolute belter tonight at Rowells in Long Eaton. Packed out all night and we (and the crowd) had a great time.

Must have been a good one behind the bar too, got paid an extra 50 quid more than normal!!

Supported the excellent Red Sky July at a church in Beverley. Seemed to go really well, you could hear a pin drop.

My 18 yo was back from uni. I asked if he wanted to come and he was all 'can't be bothered'. Then he discovered that the singer in RSJ used to be in Alisha's Attic and he was like 'OMG IM ON MY WAY'. Kids nowadays.

I understand the principle but without a venue to play at, or knowing where to even start trying to, it's just a brick wall of silence, hence i never get anywhere with it. I'm not doing anything new or unique really so I just have to remind myself of that every now and then. Not to worry, first world problems and all that

Played Victoria Inn in Derby on Sat night. Great venue, great fun, small crowd who told us they loved it. Loads of people who were 'definitely coming' cried off at last minute. And DerbyFC away meant a lot of regulars were not back in time. Bloody football.
What are bands doing to feed the damn algorithm? FB and Insta seem determined to only feed paid ads to the masses. (Which is totally their right as its their social monopoly).

I posted a 20 second video last night that I'd created to announce the release date of our next single.  Bearing in mind that several posts of photos from the gig last Saturday gathered 60+ likes and lots of engagement, this teaser only got about 5.  Clearly the algorithm detecting that it was promotional and demoting it so force our hand into paying for a boost.  I expect to pay a bit to promote it for sure, but it smarts having to give money to the Zuckerc**t.

I'm trying to figure out how to promote the actual single launch stealthily.  I think I'll just have to cough up.

Who else has paid for Facebook ads, and how successful were they?

I agree can be hard in my experience to find the right venue for certain types of music, especially if you're mainly playing original material. Suggestion - could you put on your own night somewhere,  or team up with some other local acts to do it? My band have had some success doing that. If you can find the right venue you can try  a one off night for a start, promote it a bit, see if there's any interest. Some pubs/bars will be dead on a weekday evening and will be open to suggestions.

Cheers fellas, appreciate the encouragement and ideas. I forgot that i did originally intend to film my slot but required the assistance of my better half to do so but she didn't end up coming along in the end (most of my musical ventures are very much self supported, I don't get a lot of support from family in general  =) )

I'll see about getting a set filmed, either in an actual gig or a faux gig setting that will give the general idea.

Thanks chaps, apologies for my despondent sounding comments (here and everywhere in general to be fair)

My friend came and helped at our 3 piece pub gig Friday 13th and as well as roadie/sound monitoring he got up with a singer and did 5 songs during our break.
I had the pleasure of returning the compliment Saturday 21st where he setup the back line and pa boxes for his 6 piece band while I did lights and my laptop/behringer XR18. All for Cancer research. I had a blast mixing as I went and tweaking FX in real time. Configured his PA as aux fed subs and the sound was huge without being oppressively loud. In addition the place was sold out (150) and the proceeds exceeded expectations!
Great events before my imposed break, had a hernia op today so no gigs for a month……

We played at the Swan in Stone last night as a last minute replacement. Quite a reserved crowd but we had three or four dancers all night.. they don't often come up before the interval. Band played as well as we have for a long time. Last gig with the HX Stomp before debuting the LT - as always in these situations it sounded great and had me wondering, why change it?!

Had a couple goodish ones recently. Both charity gigs so good to see lots of money raised, both rugby-orientated crowds which is great fun, usually a good sing along and means we can play a broad scope of music.
Friday before last's was a bit more 'frigid', people in the crowd chair-dancing and filming but not getting up to dance. Saturday just gone's a bit more lively.

Nothing at all through April before a gig every weekend in May... Bring it on!

I don't want to derail things but would love to hear your thoughts on both. GAS has got me looking at the HX Stomp as a competitor for a full-fat Tonex (currently using the Tonex One which has been great for me, in fairness).
