Hard to beat a good Ploughman's Lunch

There are many variations within this meal/snack but essential are : -

Cheese - easy to say good Cheddar but some other options are good - Liking crumbly Lancashire at the moment - And don't object to Stilton - sometimes 2/3 different mixed cheese is good
Pickled onion (s) - strong, firm and crunchy - not small/sweet
Apple - better cut into 3/4/5 strips/chunks
Good Pork pie
Then some form of good Branston pickle/chutney
crusty cob/bread

Can add salad/coleslaw/egg/ham as required, but more as a sit down meal - But as a nibble/snack the above are key essential ingredients

Then I'm open minded and depending on the time of day and were I'm eating - Nice pint, ice cold glass water, good red wine

    Good call.
I do like a picallili with mine and dont mind the small sweet picked onions, but understand the pro version of bigger, crunchier versions.
I like beetroot in addition to the above, but am not a fan of modern sourbread loaves. Teeth breakers and like chewing putty.
A good traditional bakers crusty cob works wonders as you say.
In wales here and hafod cheddar is my default, (welsh unpasturised cheddar), or a thelmas caerphilly (v similar to lancashire).
I find a good cider works well as an accompanying drink. Stout decent as well, goes well with cheese in particular.
    Dont worry, be silly.

Sounds quite nice.  Don't think I've ever heard of it before though

True. Has to be a decent bitter or stout with it though.

I was ploughing fields in the 70's & given that you weren't allowed to stop for breaks until the job was done, the proper answer is a slightly melted Mars bar & a packet of crushed crisps.

There's a National Trust listed building near me and you can go in and have lunch. They do a traditional Ploughman's lunch and it's great. All this cheese, doorstep bread, lovely stuff.

I always wondered if anyone did.  My encounters with the substance have lead me to regard it as overcooked veg in an acrid blend of bile and binegar.

Totally agree. It is hard to beat off to a Ploughman's Lunch. A very challenging wank indeed.

if you have had a long gap, since your youth maybe, like i did a year ago with similar sentiments, might be worth a revisit. I went branston brand and v nice and good with the pork pie.
    Dont worry, be silly.

Chips, though, are genuinely best when served in a miniature shopping trolley.
