I was being a little tongue in cheek.

Merzbow is one artist I can't fathom.
I rather spend 3 hrs with Yoko Ono, then listen to Merzbow

One after the other - that's pure masochism!

I would also go along with Texas. I only like what I like - to the point of actually saying I generally don't like music at all, on a %age basis -  so not a 'you just don't like them' response, I don't like most things. I really can't see or hear what anyone else finds appealing about them musically. I can however see what some people like about the lighthouse family, and Simply Red, and even Wet, Wet, Wet for that matter. But Texas?

Years ago I was on one of the radio stations music listening panels and they included a Texas track; my comment was that it started off lame and meandered into nothingness.

(I did borrow the comment from Neil Young, who described one of his songs as: It sorta starts off real slow and then fizzles out altogether.)

I liked early Texas, when they were a bluesy guitar-based band. It was the Chris Evans led comeback when they became a more pure pop band where I lost interest.

    Texas had some good shit.

I’m just impressed we got this far without anyone suggesting David Gray, because his best stuff* is fantastic

And he did at least manage to sing "say hello wave goodbye" in tune, which is a lot more than Marc Almond achieved.

I like White Ladder, Life In Slow Motion (which I think is my favourite) and Draw The Line, but A New Day At Midnight is weak, and the pre-White Ladder stuff is... well let's just say there is a reason he wasn't successful until White Ladder. I somehow lost interest after that, I should probably listen to the more recent albums.

The funny thing is that his cover really put me off him at first - I'm not a huge Marc Almond fan but I thought DG ruined the song. Now I quite like it.

Oh, I think he ruined it, but at least he ruined it in tune.

Morcheeba. Like the Lighthouse Family's younger, very slightly hipper cousins. Insipid stuff.
My Daughter's boyfriend's Dad is the one of two Brothers that is no longer in Morcheeba. Can't say I've ever deliberately heard them.

Has anyone mentioned rap yet? Very seldom indeed s it possible to condemn an entire genre of music with no possible exceptions, but rap is execrable from start to finish.

It's an opinion which has been expressed before.  Some will disagree with you, if anyone's still reading the thread.

Beastie Boys, early Eminem, NWA? All pretty groundbreaking.

    Beyonce.

And, despite being a gayer myself, I simply have never understood the Madonna jerk circle.

That's one that falls into the "I don't like it" camp, rather than the "I can't see how anybody would like it" subject of the thread ;)
