Peavey 6505+ crunch volume jump

I have my eye on a 6505+ 112. 

I used to have the head version. The crunch button on the rhythm channel gives a HUGE volume jump such that it’s not feasible to switch from clean to crunch on the fly. 

I was wondering about a mod to counter this. 

The EVH 5150 III has concentric pots - but I’m sure that’s a total different design. 

Anyhow, just wondering if anyone knows of an available mod, or even if it’s possible?

Would the ubiquitous volume or boost pedal in the loop that can be switched in/out with the clean/crunch work? Might be a bit tap-dancing-ey though without a switching device.
