I'm sure he's a lovely and knowledgable guy but I really, really hate these types of vids.

Colin comes over as a really nice guy but I'd admit that his delivery style won't be for everyone.  I like it though - he's personable, isn't up his own backside or too much of a nerd and brings a nice 'man-on-the-street' approach to reviews.

Interesting ... a basswood cap? Surely that's defeating the reason that everyone cites for having a maple top ... density to boost treble and stop the mahogany from making the guitar 'woofy'. Personally the collective wisdom is a bit flawed on this one ... but hey.
However, as anyone who has had a basswood super-strat knows ... basswood is actually quite soft and dents easily ... not what you'd substitute for maple really - especially when maple isn't particularly rare or expensive. .
    Odd choices all round.

  • Once you go cheap there's no going back imo, they should've aimed at the higher end market instead of competing with the budget end, this is already saturated and well taken care of.
They already have aimed at the higher end market with their Custom Core line.

Neck a bit flatter than I'd like, but a mahogany neck , not maple.

Have checked with dawsons who say the necks are all same profile on the plus models - more 60s than 50s, and the h150s tend to weigh around 8.5lb.

If it means they can still make the US ones and stay in business, go for it.

rather reminds me of Maestro by Gibson offerings...
Gibson's Baldwin guitars, under the wing of which the Maestro guitars where marketed, were a bit of a mixed bag, some were okay, others not. But what they did all benefit from was the merit of two musical brand names which many people had heard of. Hence they had Gibson plastered all over the boxes they came in as well as being sold in loads of places where this would be seen. This is not really something you could say for these Heritage brand budget models and the somewhat tenuous link to Gibson for these will really only be known by Gibson afficionados.
