WTB - Ilford hp5 B&W 35mm film or any colour 35mm film rolls

What's Hot

Looking ideally for some ilford hp5 35mm film or decent colour film if anyone has any collecting dust and would like to shift them on.

I have an olympus trip 35 which I am enjoying using. Its costly but I don't mind slowly getting through a roll and having it developed once in a while.

TIA

If you happen upon it, I may be interested. I’m a novice with film. As I understand it, if it has expired it tends to either under or over expose? I may need to research if expired film is ok in the trip 35. Let me know if you happen to find it anyways

I’ll have a look, I know I had a couple of cartridges from years back, but yo7 can bet your bottom dollar I threw them out only about a year ago.
I loved FP4, HP5 and particularly PANF, and I would develop the film and print using their multi tone papers (or whatever they were called) and quite often went through a phase of printing really grainy Pics by exposing the 400 at 1600 and then bringing it back in the development . That used to be a necessity when photographing gigs without a flash .  Oh such fun :)

Great, no worries if nothing turns up. That sounds like such a fun and interesting process. Ive always wanted to try developing. I really like the b&w grainy images. Digital just doesn’t seem to quite emulate the analogue grain and texture. Fujifilm X series seems to do a nice job but whenever I see a film shot it just feels different. If only it weren’t such a costly process!

How did you develop your film? I know there developing drums which seem to be somewhat simple. Did you scan your negatives and then print off the scans?

I have an Epson V100 flatbed scanner with negative tray I used to scan film. I no longer shoot film so I could sell it to you if interested.

It’s worth developing your own black and white, it pays for itself quite quickly if you plan to do it a lot. Colour film on the other hand… that’s much more of a pain to do at home. I do my bw film in a Paterson tank with ilford ID11, ilfostop, ilfofix. The tricky bit is getting the film on the spool in a dark bag! Ilford sell a decent little kit for trying it yourself. Film scanning using a decent plustek film scanner. As for film, expired colour you can develop at the correct ISO without too much pain, what you tend to find is the colours have aged differently, so you end up with some interesting effects. If you are after some film I like analogue wonderland, they have a good variety of stock and prices are reasonable.

I've just loaded a Oly 35SP sat on my desk next to me!

I've got some Porta 160 that is expired if you'd like to try it. I've never dared. You can have it for postage cost.

I use Ilford as it's cheap, and get colour Kodak Vision 250D which is nice, and not too expensive.

Thanks for the info. I do like the sound of this process as it seems relatively simple and less costly. I do like the idea of developing b&w at home. The thought of developing colour is daunting and would require a fair amount of trial and error which will probably end up being potentially expensive. I’ll look into your suggestions.

I hadn’t come across the Oly 35 SP. Looked it up, its a lovely little rangefinder. Looks very similar to the trip 35 but as I understand it, it has a better lense. I may pick one up at some point once I get the hang of the trip 35. I shot my first role, of Kodak colour plus 200. Unfortunately the lense focus was out! So I had to do the thing where you jam the shutter open and use frosted plastic to recalibrate the lense. I seem to have sorted it. Fingers crossed my next role will be in focus.

Thanks for the offer for the porta 160. Yes I would like to go for it. Will pm you.

Years ago used to develop B&W film in the “changing bag”:in my bathroom at home.  we put a red light bulb in the ceiling lamp and shut the blind.  We taped the edge down a bit but not much
Did the same for printing / enlarging l we bought a years and years old enlarger from the Lane in Bethnal Green.  I went away to University and couldn’t believe then”luxury” of a proper darkroom!
