Best modern amp for early Malcolm Young?

Been listening to a lot of early AC/DC recently and once again reminded of how awesome Malcolm’s rhythm tone is. That early Alberts / Vanda & Young sound. Obviously a JTM 45/100 or Superbass isn’t really practical; is there anything out there these days that gets in the ballpark in a smaller, quieter package?

Marshall ST20? Probably the cleanest sounding of the studio heads.

I’m interested in the 1974x but more for  chimey Marshall rather than the quite solid and more restrained top end Malcolm had back then.

Carr BelRay on the Marshall setting would also get there or thereabouts

Friedman Little Sister will do it, or a used Dirty Shirley Mini.

The 1974x is too compressed in my opinion for this sort of sound.

The Marshall st20c or h is a good shout but would be better if you could fit EL34's to it and boost the top end a bit.

I recently finished off a Blackflag 50 for a customer that nailed Malcolm's tone with the right guitar, I think to get there on a budget I would go for a SV20 and change three parts to take it closer to black flag spec.

How does the PRS HDRX 20 compare to the Sv20? Anyone tried both?

Friedman 20 watters can do it, my Runt 20 does AC/DC tones, both Malcolm and Angus for days. Failing that the Marshall SV and ST will

I’ll have to investigate the SV and ST, and see how that goes. Thanks for all the comments!

I think the Quilter Cub UK does a great Marshall sound. It sounds more like a non-master amp cranked rather than the higher gain stuff.
