Anyone know a really good Valve guitar Amp Tech / Restorer in Edinburgh..I need some work done on my Marshall JMP mk 2 Master Volume 50 Watt 2x12 Combo..The Celestion Blackback speakers and combo case is at my Mum's..I turned it into a head to make it more portable..That part will need to be retrieved..When I got it,it had KT 77's in it..It needs to be Biased for EL 34' again..It is 45 years old..A recap may be a good idea,,last time checked out apparently the Caps were fine....It still sounds great..I clipped a wire to tame the treble,,apparently a well known modification..

We are up in Kirriemuir. DD85PU
Also recommend Olly at Fretronics Engineering Ltd - G51 3TR

Marshall may even give the amp a once over for you, if you don't mind shipping it.

Thanks..I have no transport of my own..I may be able to get my wee cousin to grab both bits....He is in Tayport, but comes down to visit....It may take a little while though..Glasgow would actually be more difficult.
Pity there is no one in Edinburgh, but it deserves good work done on it..

    A possibly sacreligious question..Could reverb be added...Dinnae hit me..Please..lol

You'll have to persuade him out of amp-tech retirement, though.

ICBM has a metal allergy,,he has done very good work for me in the past,,but I remember the state of his hands even nearly about 30 years ago it is now...All that time his hands were a mess covered in red lumps and he also had no time to play guitar...So I wouldn't dream of asking him.He originally done guitars too which he was also very good at..He was also very generous with his knowledge back then..I did pester him a bit,,,,how does this work..lol..He is the main reason plus Dan Erlewine why I learned to set up my own guitars..Which led to me doing other stuff too...

Yes, I’ve stopped doing amp work now. The allergies weren’t the whole reason, but now I’m out I’m not going back… sorry! I’m managing a shop now, after a few years working at a gin distillery.

I’m also enjoying playing guitar again :).

I don't think Dennis Marshall is doing much these days, but I could be wrong. He fixed our other guitarist's Mesa a couple of years ago, and I haven't heard much about him since. His website hasn't been updated since before Covid.

Last year I sent my Bluesbreaker chassis to Marshall in Bletchley for a once over and a cap job. They picked it up by courier, fixed it up, and couriered it back to me for a total of £58 including parts and shipping. I reckon a local tech couldn't possibly have done it for less. Highly recommended.

    A possibly sacreligious question..Could reverb be added...Dinnae hit me..Please..lol
You could get a buffered effects loop fitted to run all your delay and reverb effect in. But I would not want to drill that chassis rear panel. The other option would be to fit an effects loop in a separate enclosure in the combo cab. I have done that before and is keeps the original amp in tact.

I saw Dennis earlier in the year, he still working but I think only valve amps now, semi-retired or so I think.

That is an fantastic price from Marshall to be sure!
