Hi all. I have a Microkorg & Microfreak, and looking for something else to accompany them! So so many options. An obvious choice would be a mono synth, but not looking for that. Not looking to spend a whole lot. Thoughts?
A Yamaha Reface CS ? No idea what to go for! The more basic the better!

  • One of the Dreadbox boxes? They have a few options from mono bass synths to polyphonic stuff. Twisted Electron do a nice variety of synths inspired by retro gaming. There’s the West Pest which looks amazingly good value for money

I’d be tempted by a drum machine or groove box though. I think the Elektron Model:Cycles is great value for money. Limited palette though, so worth trying first

  • @personalnadir yeah, the dreadbox stuff looks really cool. I was thinking of the bass station 2. I had one before briefly. The paraphonic mode was pretty cool, and I didn't really know you could use it as a type of drum machine, which would be very handy indeed.

How are you actually using the synths?

If you want to use them together something like a Circuit Tracks which will give you another couple of synth engines and the ability to sequence the other two boxes and mix them would be a good shout.

You could also get a sampler sequencer like a Digitakt or Polyend Tracker.

  • @monquixote using them separately, not hooked up to each other at all. I would be very much a noob with synths in general. I usually find some presets or pre made patches online that I like and tweak on the fly. I also have a Circuit which I use the odd time. I struggle with getting my head around that!
