  • I bought a MusicMan Stingray from them last week. Better condition than their very detailed description would have you believe... which is good as the bass exceeded my expectations. It also happens to be a great instrument.

I bought a Stingray 5 from them last year too.

The prices for both were at the lower end and possibly the lowest I'd seen either bass for sale for through a shop.

I will inevitably buy from them again.

Happy to recommend them on the basis of a trip there today for a part exchange. The deal was fair, not brilliant, and not taking the piss. I got a good deal on the Epi Les Paul I wanted (I'll do a NGD post in a bit), and a reasonable return on my investment on a Gordon Smith Classic T I bought new several years ago. The quoting process was straightforward, and there was no quibbling about anything.

The tech, Alex, was very helpful, and happy to redo the setup with the strings of my choice.

Overall, well worth the 7 hour round trip from darn sarf.

It's an aladdins cave in there !

Bit more with it than the not-sorely-missed Life Guitars....

  • Just looking at the location for these and I pass that area at least once a week as my Daughter and family live in Mossley. I wonder if the wife will mind a little detour? No,that is not a Double Entendre!

That looks like a proper outfit. I keep thinking about jacking all of mine in for one high end guitar. Then variety is the spice of life.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

I've been down a couple of times (they're about 30 mins from me) and had positive experiences both times.

First time was to try a Zilla 2x12 cab which I ended up buying and have been really happy with.

Second time I demo'd a Dunable guitar which I slept on and when I called back it had been snapped up already!

Both times the staff were very personable and helpful, got me set up to try things out and left me alone to get on with it, couldn't ask for much more really.  Plus the prices seem fair and they've got loads of interesting clobber in stock.

All in all a dangerous place to have in the vicinity :-D

I bought a Blackstar Artisan 15H & 2 x 12 off them two years ago. Lovely guys to deal with. Very well priced.

Oh look, the PRS SE I sent them is still there!

I did a succesful part-ex with them earlier this month. You can read all about it here: https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/286714/success-downsizing-and-getting-a-new-stratocaster-whos-good-for-part-exchanges#latest

I posted a PRS SE and a Gretsch Electromatic, paid a bit more and got a lovely USA Pro II Strat in return. They solved all my problems in one go. Excellent comms, great photos and a speedy delivery.
My opinions in context: I rarely gig and don't play guitar for a living. I record my own music for a non-profit org's research and education videos. I have modified or built most of my equipment and I owe a big debt of gratitude to many people on this forum (you know who you are!).

I'll add to the positive reviews of SUYG.  I've done a few trades with them now, a straightforward experience everytime.  They're also good at taking stuff back within 30 days if it isn't working out for you.  I had a lovely MIJ Tokai LPC from them a few months back but couldn't get on with the neck and returned it a week later for a full, no quibble refund.

Just sold 3 more guitars to sell us your guitar, nice and straight forward process and they were asking for payment details mid morning the day of receiving my guitars which I think is very good.

They also agreed to slightly increase their price which I appreciated because the resale value of one of my guitars was terrible meaning I was taking quite a loss(which to be clear isn't their problem as they are pricing based on historical second hand sales)

Nice people to deal with and they never keep you waiting too long for a response when you are dealing with them.

I've now sold 5 guitars to them without issue, no reduction in prices once received and prompt payment.

  • Well, I've had a previous good experience a few years ago and this thread has now inspired me to use them again. Agreement to sell a guitar to them signed this morning.  :)

  • Only thing stopping me from selling 3 guitars to them is the thought of having to climb up into the loft to get the cases down. Getting too old for that shit.

This is all good to read.  I'm definitely going to give them a try soon.  Well, soonish.

  • Another thumbs up from me. Traded 2 for 1 last year (better deal trading). And sold another this year. That showroom looks amazing!

I'll share my recent experience: I decided to sell three large bodied semi-hollow Reverends, listing all three on eBay, Gumtree and here. I also contacted a few dealers. Fat Bottom Guitars weren’t interested, Andertons made the lowest offer on all three, GuitarGuitar offered more, but Richtone were the best, especially on the Spacehawk. At that point I discovered SUYG thanks to @Yorkie ;posting on here. Their offer was highest, apart from the Spacehawk. However, their offer also included sending packaging to me, and collection and insurance. Despite that, they're also open to discussions... so after I added a hard case,  the offer was increased to match RT. At this point I noticed their ‘trade bonus’, so I went through their stock, and thought many prices seemed quite reasonable. This puzzled me, as their offers had also been good. Thinking about it, I guess their entire stock comes from used, as do all their sales, so they need to be competitive at both ends.

I’ve been after an HSS Strat for a while, and came close to buying a new one (that plan changed with the re-election of Trump). SUYG had an Ultra in good condition at fair price, so I took advantage of the trade bonus:

Overall, a good experience, communications were mostly prompt, offers good, and their prices seem reasonable (at least in general). The biggest downside was the use of Parcel Force: Collection/Deliveries are done with a whole day window, (but thankfully you can specify days). And their tracking is useless. For the delivery of packing materials, the tracking still said ‘at depot’ in the mid afternoon, so I was expecting them to arrive a day late … and then there was a knock at the door. For the guitar delivery, tracking was stuck at ‘hub’, so I was wondering if it had got lost, but it updated to ‘at depot’ at lunchtime and arrived a few minutes later. So neither delivery ever updated to ‘out for delivery’, as such it’s probably better to ignore it and just hope for the best.

My wife bought her Gretsch there. It was a great deal, especially considering it has upgraded pickups and Compton bridge. Would definitely reccomend visiting, they have a great space and have always been super accomodating at letting us try anything. As said above, a dangerous place to live near!

  • Never ended up using them, but their trade offers have always been generous and I popped by once and they basically let me wander round the loft at my leisure trying whatever I wanted. No lurking, no pressure. Assume it might be different if there are a lot of people there at once, but about as fun an experience as I've had a in guitar shop of late!

I live close and have been a couple of times to their store. No pressure and let me try several guitars with no hassle or hard sell. Purchased one guitar from them. Was as described and a good price.
Would happily buy from them again.
    Nice bunch of chaps too.

Have they got any 8 strings in? Searching on the site brings up 38 pages but I can only see a Jackson that’s actually got 8 strings.
