I traded a guitar in last week and the whole process was very smooth (I used the postage option). They offered a very competitive valuation and I was left feeling good about the deal. Communication is great and the courier side of things is decent. I’m not too far away so I may go in person next time.

    Just adding an observation here.
I got a few quotes for a Suhr Classic T that I subsequently sold on here for the upper end of the dealer quotes.

Peach were worst with a trade in offer of £1300 for one of their own dealer selects.
    SUYG were £1300 cash.
Jordan were £1500 cash £1600 trade (offered £50 more if I took the gotoh in tune saddles off and replaced with the original wilkinson.)
Squealing Pig were £1700 cash, but subsequently decided they had too much stock.
CODA were £1750 for a trade in. Unfortunately nothing in stock that I was after but have since done a couple of really nice deals with Marc.

It pays to shop around a bit but Coda usually works out best for me.

I need to pop into here. I've been in the immediate area twice in the last few days visiting my Daughter,Son and Law and Grandkids in Mossley. One of my sons wants to have a look around a place with a decent selection of guitars to try out and I do too. Procrastination and petrol prices are terrible hurdles to get past.

I part ex’d my Martin acoustic against a PRS Custom 24 recently. The thing I found is the SUYG selling price was way lower for the guitar I was after…one dealer (Andertons I think?) wanted £500 more for an almost identical guitar in similar condition. So their part ex offer might not be the best but the cost to swap was still decent overall.

Faultless procedure btw, it all went really smoothly and the courier arrived when they promised for both collection and deliveries. They used a company called APC (Alternative Parcel Company), not heard of them before but they seemed pretty good.

Same happened to me, I ended up getting a ‘nearly new’ American Pro II Strat in an incredible colour for ~£200 less than the rest. I’m incredibly happy with the guitar — and the extra space.
My opinions in context: I rarely gig and don't play guitar for a living. I record my own music for a non-profit org's research and education videos. I have modified or built most of my equipment and I owe a big debt of gratitude to many people on this forum (you know who you are!).

Just coming back to this thread to say that I didn't know SUYG before reading about it here, and I just did a part ex with them for the new ES-339 I posted about elsewhere.

There was a small delay with the courier but it was all handled perfectly by everyone involved, involved the delivery driver LITERALLY going out of his way to complete things more quickly after the initial delay (imagine that, in a world of amazon and evri deliveries).

SUYG were super responsive, gave me a great valuation, and arranged everything perfectly. The packaging kit they send you is really solid.

I have a feeling this won't be the last time I go with them.

Resurrecting an old thread to say I've just had my first dealing with SUYG... and my first guitar sales for over a decade.  No I wasn't quickly offloading a couple of Fenders before they become worthless.

All went very smoothly.  Filled in the online form, uploaded some photos (terrible ones which wouldn't have been suitable for an eBay, Reverb or classifieds ad, but good enough for this purpose).  They didn't respond immediately but within a few days I received the boxes and had the guitars solidly packed up (which wasn't very pleasant in last week's heatwave).

The boxes were collected yesterday and this morning my bank notified me of funds received.  It almost seemed too easy.

    Anything niche?

Not niche, an entry-level tatty Gibson, and a Gordon Smith.  I thought they might not attract much interest as consignment sales, and I wanted to try a direct cash sale to see how it worked out.

Interesting that almost everyone who’s posted on here has had a smooth deal with SUYG, which is great, but no one apart from bacchanalian has said exactly what guitars they sold or traded and how much they got for them. Or if a trade, what they got for their guitar and what was the asking price for the one they took away. I know people have said they got ‘fair prices’ etc but what does that mean in real money? Based on my one experience of talking to SUYG, last year they offered me £1650 to buy my very nice CS Journeyman Relic Strat in great condition, so personally I think they offer rubbish money! (I subsequently sold my guitar for £2250 through Facebook marketplace without too much difficulty.)

To answer that from an entirely personal perspective, I don't want to say exactly what I sold or exactly how much I got for them, because I don't want people telling me how much more I could have got from shop X or dealer Y, then someone else coming on and slagging off Y for being a "bedroom dealer", and saying I should've gone to Z because he also sells online, but he's OK because he's got a showroom which you can visit on Wednesday afternoons....  Etcetera.

They offered me a price, I accepted it, end of story really.  On another occasion I might try somewhere else, or I might try a commission sale, or I might do another cash sale with SUYG.  We'll see.  I'm not necessarily bothered about obtaining the absolute best price I could possibly get, it's more about selling with minimum hassle.

They offer 2/3 of market value. In your case, they should have offered ~£1,500. So £1,650 for a no-fuss transaction sounds pretty good to me.

Of course things work out even better if you part-ex… as it did for me.

Yep, 2/3 of what they’ll put it up for with a discount (if trading) on the one you’re buying which can vary depending on the guitar.

I think it's unreasonable to expect people to quote exact figures for their transactions with SUYG, after all, it doesn't help a UK dealer to have a forum quoting the buy-in prices of their stock. I was careful to avoid doing so for this very reason. However, my post did describe how SUYG gave better initial offers on 2 out of 3 guitars compared to other UK dealers, and how that offer increased and was supplemented by a trade-in bonus. That's useful and reasonable information to share.

If any dealer offered more money than you could get on a private sale, well, I'd take that as evidence of the next dealer to be shutting up shop! How the **** could they possible stay in business like that?

Can't comment on the selling/trading aspect, but I bought an Eastman off SUYG recently and I had a really good experience. Guitar in great nick and well setup, very well packed, shipped same day and delivered next day, with good comms in between.

I felt the price was fair, too (once using their 10% discount code).

I'd avoided them before for some reason thinking it'd be a bit of bedroom dealer experience, but clearly not.
