Wanting to get TV for wife* in bedroom........have not bought TV yet but have NO aerial socket

She likes the catch up stuff....Freeview looks the biz but I require an outside aerial for that ,yeah?

Happy to buy a set top box along with new TV if it sorts the NO aerial questions......what are me options folks?

Can you get wifi in the bedroom, Hoots?  If so just get a Firestick (£25 or so), plug it into the HDMI socket on the telly, and connect to your wifi.

Aerial with a signal booster should only cost about £150 to be installed, including wiring into a couple of rooms.

    Then a freeview box.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

I have an indoor aerial, flat square type that stuck to the window which works fine.

If you have a TV downstairs with an aerial connection already then, depending on the layout of your house, a quick, cheap, easy fix is to put an aerial splitter box on your outside wall and run a co-ax aerial cable from the box into the bedroom. Our bedroom is above our living room so this worked well for us and we've have had no issues with my DIY solution in the last 6 years (a great surprise to me I might add).

Something like this will be fine:

We also have a Roku stick plugged into the bedroom TV HDMI socket so we have all bases covered.

I thought "bedroom telly" would be a euphemism for "porn".

Have you got Sky? You can add an extra box for £5 a month. You can watch all your recorded stuff and any apps you’ve got like Netflix, Prime etc through it as well. Connects to the base Sky box over wifi so it solves the no-aerial problem.

As far as I'm aware, you can't get proper "live" TV (i.e all the Freeview channels) without either an aerial or satellite etc. for Sky (or similar)

Wifi and a Smart TV will give you all the catch-ups - Iplayer / ITVX / 4OD. Iplayer (maybe others?) will let you watch live BBC. If you have smart TV you won't need a fire stick as the TV will have the catch-ups and Netflix / Prime etc available - most of them anyway.

I've tried an indoor aerial (a decent one) in our bedroom. Our house isn't in line of sight to the mast and signal wasn't great. Worked ok for most Freeview channels but not all. Eventually went to the extra Sky box in the bedroom.

About to cancel Sky soon as, apart from the footy, we don't watch much that can't be got via Now TV (and even the footy will be cheaper via Now)

The firestick give some live services, plus many of the apps offer live streams of their channels. IPlayer has all the live BBC channels

I've seen Freely advertised on TV which appears to be freeview via live streaming rather than an aerial. Having had a quick look it's not on the firestick which is unfortunate......

Whilst firesticks have a lot of TV options they don't have the full freeview list.

We cannot get TV reception through an aerial at home so have had to rely on freesat or streaming until BT Broadband moved over to EE Broadband - they've given me a couple of telly boxes which stream the full freeview channels via wifi, i don't need an aerial plugged in and they're brilliant. If you're a BT / EE Broandand customer they should ship you a couple of free and will be perfect for your needs.
