I should explain myself better ......
It's not that I'm all '3 chords and the truth ' and I very much enjoy Classical music ( although I prefer Sonatas and Chamber music to big Orchestral things ) but for me ,  the whole fusion of Pop/Rock together with Orchestra and Choir etc just doesn't work ......it's oil and water .If it was a Cocktail I'd prefer a good single Malt to a Whiskey Sour. That's just me.
The 'pretentious ' Sting type 'with London Philharmonic ' production is just horrid .....likewise all other Artists that Aggrandise their shows with the attendent orchestra production . Electric Light Orchestra is about as close to Rock as I can stand to see a cello or French Horn .......heaven forbid a Baritone Bassoon !
    I'm a funny old thing.

I don't disagree, but Sigur Ros have used orchestral instruments in their studio recordings pretty much since day one. And rarely used plucked guitar at all - Jonsi plays with a bow most of the time, and even the bass is often filtered to remove any attack (note - I need to find out what he was using for this as it sounded perfect)

They played Ara Batur for the first time this week because they had the orchestra and the organ and could finally play it as intended.

Kjartan Sveinsson from Sigur Ros is a classically trained musician and knows his way around orchestral composition and arrangement. Always remember the behind the scenes video of them recording Ara Batur at Abbey Road when the producer implied they may need to tweak the score a bit before recording - Kjartan wasn't having it - he knew it was all perfect ;-)

And his 'opera' is probably my favourite 'classical' music of the last decade.
