  • Thanks, I'm not planning on using it without a modeller, but will be interested in hearing how it sounds.

  • The BAM 200 is here…nice little thing, doesn’t seem that loud though tbh. I’ve only got it plugged into a Peavey Eurosys PA speaker as I don’t have a guitar speaker cab yet. I think the Peavey is 8 ohms.

Tone wise it’s kind of what I would expect from a bass amp - super clean and clear. The tone controls are useful but the range is pretty extreme. I can’t really test it properly without annoying my family so I will take it to work on Monday and try it there.

I will try with a speaker cab asap, but I think if this doesn’t work out it’s TMDR for me.

My mate had a BAM500 (I think) with a bass cab and he said it wasnt as loud as he expected it to be. The baby bomb is freakishly loud to be fair. I'm running a Nux Amp academy through the Tech21 powercab and that's great so far (the Nux clean amps are wonderful)

I use a warwick gnome, 200 watt bass amp - you can set the controls for a level EQ for guitar (bas treble at 9:00 middle at 3:00), I use it with a tonex pedal and it can go from deafeningly loud at the studio through a 4 x 12 to very quite at home through a single 1 x 12. not as small as a pedal, but small enough to go on my pedalboard, or in the pouch of a gigbag. The TC BAM200 is a similar thing, its absolutely been a revelation. Oh, and its about £130 new

Sorry to hijack the thread somewhat - it’s just I’m looking for a similar thing - @Exorcist re the Warwick Gnome - have you tried a BAM200? What’s your point of reference? Would I be satisfied looking for a big clean sound a la Fender Twin?
Sorry mate, I've only just seen this and see you went ahead and purchased a BAM. I haven't tried a BAM, I read a bunch of forums before deciding to buy the Gnome (also BAX 30 day returns) but I do believe from those that tried both, the gnome went noticeably louder. Other than that it sems the are pretty much identical (same 9,3,9:0-clock settings for a flat response).
Using my tonex as the amp - this thing will get LOUD through a 4 x 12 I really don't even get the gain and volume up to half way (with a pretty loud drummer.) Its very clean all the way up too - I have a matchless profile, clean with a touch of 'grit' that is my clean tone which sounds fantastic, and gain I'm using all sorts from 5150 to VHT and orange profiles, also Suhr riot and Russian muff though the matchless profile. All of this sounds great at high volume IMHO - I've been doing this for over 30 years and have had a ton of kit so this isn't me just being a fanboy. Does it sounds better through a valve power stage? Maybe, through the fx return of a Marshall type amp, but for the ease of just bringing a pedal board and guitar to the studio I'll live with it. Also then just going into my little 1 x 12 at home and getting the same sounds at bedroom level. How have you got on with the BAM?

  • I’m not sure about the BAM - I felt it didn’t sound quite right through my PA speaker, probably should wait to try through a guitar speaker but spev11 has sent me his baby bomb and I’m super happy with it. I like the bright switch on - both the Joyo American Sound and the Tonex sound great and there’s tons of volume. The 30 watt seems comparable to a 30 watt valve amp eg AC30 and I like the response.

The Peavey Eurosys PA speaker is surprisingly satisfying with an IR in front. I’m curious though so I’m going to buy a nice G10 and stick it in one of the Peavey speakers and remove the crossover. These speakers are wooden (presumably mdf) and quite light. Definitely more amp-in-a-room like sound than my Bose S1.

I’m liking the idea of recycling this stuff as I’ve had it since the 90s and it never gets used otherwise. Maybe I should get the Harley Benton stereo one so I can run both speakers!

    Or just another baby bomb…
