Ron Ely (Tarzan!)

Sad to see that Ron Ely has died. Tarzan was great Saturday morning TV. He was by far my fave Tarzan, I liked him as an intelligent person. The whole show seemed amazing, so exotic, such a different world/

Also he was great in the somewhat mad film of Doc Savage! Well worth a watch!

One of those Hollywood leading men that always seemed oddly middle aged, like Charlton Heston. I used to watch on Saturday TV and yes saw Doc Savage Man Of Bronze too, thought it was great.

Goodbye to my favourite Tarzan (after Johnny Weissmuller).
Hard to believe that he outlived Manuel Padilla Jr. by 16 years (Jai in the TV series, bottom left in the image above).
    RIP.

I remember watching those Tarzan shows as a kid, never seen them since but I suspect they might not hold up well... I like the Doc Savage film though, absolute tosh but entertaining.  I had no idea he was still around.  RIP.

I was thinking the opposite, my recollection was great production values for the day. Has a very healthy IMDB score of 7.0

I honestly don't remember any episodes in detail, I'm just assuming they were pretty talky and lacking in stunts and action, I could be wrong.  Are they available anywhere to watch?  I was thinking last night that you never see a Tarzan film any more, probably due - I would guess - to outdated depictions of racial stereotypes.  Which probably wouldn't apply so much to the TV series, as it was more recent.

I vaguely remember Tarzan, I don't think I was a regular viewer, not really anything else by him although he has a long filmography. Very handsome man, dated Ursula Andress and Britt Ekland. Obviously an extraordinary life by many standards, I hope he enjoyed it all.
I suspect there are elements of his Tarzan shows that won't stand up to modern scrutiny but been so long that's just speculation. Maybe we are due another remake sometime soon.

If you remember one episode you've remembered them all, it wasn't overly heavy on plot.

Well his second wife (mother of his 3 kids) was stabbed and killed by his son, who was then shot and killed by the police.

I just looked up his height, he was 6' 4" - I never realised that he was so tall!

Oh, I think I've just remembered the Tarzan theme tune....

Yep, I had.  The end credits theme is less memorable...

I think - no, I'm sure - we already had a colour TV when I was watching it.  The show was made from 1966 to 1968 but I was only four in 1968, so I must have seen repeats in the early '70s.
