Power switcher in a nice box

What's Hot
Saw this and thought how handy it could be sitting on top of an amp: one switch for the amp, one for pedalboard, etc.

The boring bit… if you make one of these for yourself to use at home it’s fine. If you want to make one to sell, buy one from someone else, or probably to use in a public place (where public liability insurance applies), it will need to be electrically certified and PAT tested.

I doubt I'd be brave enough to build one, honestly. Guitar wiring is fine, easy pedal fixes are fine - I'll even delve into an amp if I can see an obvious loose connection. But I have no idea how to handle mains voltage safely.

  • Why have two incoming power cables?

Didn’t watch it through but I think he said that some of the equipment he wanted to control was connected to a UPS?
A guitar doesn't care how good you are, all it asks for is it's played.

Exactly that. One is a space heater, one is a computer. He doesn't want the UPS getting drained quickly if there's a power cut by the heater.

I must admit I don't quite understand what it's for (in the UK at least)? As we have switched wall sockets anyway, is this 'just' so one can switch things on/off remote from the wall? Am I missing something?

    Does look nicely made though...

Yes - basically a neat remote switch for mains things.

I think you could make something similar fairly cheaply and safely, using fused spur switches with IEC cables (or chopped mains extension cables) in and out. Not light switches as they only break live, not neutral as well.

Not one to attempt if you're not certain what you're up to. Mains, as I believe I've said before, is ouchy if you get it up you. Also fire risk.

Not a fan of using Wagos, I know sparks love them because they are quick but it's not something you would use in a portable box. Nice box but not well built internally.
