I swear to God, that this is one of the finest rock tracks ever recorded.

From Aerosmith's debut 1973 album.
The recording is so raw. No fancy FX. Where the meat meets the metal.
Just pure talent.

It’s their best song for me, but I’m partial to this recording:

Haven’t listened to the recording of that show in a long time but I remember Chip Away the Stone being a fun performance also.

Nice! Someone’s put it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFH-V6zol7I

Not the ideal setlist for me, but there’s some good stuff in there.

    Thanks @barnstorm
What an amazing live recording. Good Lord, they were incredible live.

You can get it on either Greatest Hits 1973-1988 or the Made in America EP.

Hmmnnn ..... It's OK. For finest rock tracks of the 70s I usually look to the Montrose debut which has incredible balls.

Well, I pressed play, jumped forward a bit, jumped a bit more, and again, a little squeal, almost the end, the end.

I never rated Aerosmith at all.

I mean, they were massive, helped defined a genre and so on, but I get no more reaction to them than I do with Coldplay or Perry Como.

From that time, UFO did far more for me.

But I think that just means you prefer a pretty different flavour of rock music? I know the two bands sometimes get lumped in together in discussions, but they don’t have much in common for me.

Definitely, I’m kind of surprised they don’t work for me because it feels like they should.

Their debut album was an absolute banger, however apart from a handful of later tracks, I can't say I was a fan of their later albums.  Now UFO was a band I just couldn't get into for some reason.

I was really into Aerosmith for a while but lost interest during the 1990s when they were very successful but - in my opinion - lost their identity by bringing in so many outside songwriters.  I still like the older stuff but I never really listen to it.

I got into Aerosmith in about 1982 having seen an article in Kerrang magazine. First album I bought was Rocks, which was a pretty damn good place to start.
Think I bought most of the albums in Beanos secondhand record shop and I remember my copy of the first album being quite a heavy slab of vinyl - maybe an early pressing...still have it somewhere.
I recall that my interest in that new band "Guns n Roses" and their just released "Live like a suicide" EP was because of their good cover of Aerosmith's Mama Kin

The first Aerosmith albums I heard were Rocks, Toys and Live Bootleg, all borrowed from friends at school.  I think I actually bought the three Joe Perry Project albums (which are patchy at best) before I bought any Aerosmith.

The annoying thing is that they could still bring it when they could be bothered to contribute/exercise some judgement – Eat the Rich, written with Jim Vallance (Summer of '69) was great fun live. More money in the Bon Jovi business, though.

All those later albums have some good tracks (well, as far as I know, I never bothered to buy the last two).  But I just can't be bothered listening to all the dreck to get to the good stuff.
