    RIP.
I never speak ill of the dead. No matter how tempting. But I’m not a fan of right wingers.

I don't know a lot about him although a few people have tried to cut his life short over the years so in the end 96 was pretty impressive. He did some really positive sounding work around earthquake relief. A lot of it then goes to shit, depending on your perspective of course, although I suppose it's impressive in its way that he was still, allegedly, embezzling funds into his 90s.
I guess we hope that everything around his death and funeral goes quietly and he fades into history.

I did an interview with him (in French) during the Presidential election in 2007. After the camera was off I chatted with him in English and asked what he thought of the right-wing Republicans then on the ascendance in the US. His reaction was, "They're insane".

He achieved the greatest landslide in French presidential election history, in 2002.

    Jean-Marie Le Pen - 17.79%

    Jacques Chirac - 82.21%

Even the Socialists voted for Chirac, a conservative centre-right politician.

Well he wasn't wrong.  And for that, RIP I guess.

Why not? I don't have any particular feelings about Le Pen but feel no hesitation in mocking anyone that I dislike or hated that was dead. Hitler was a bit of rascal for example, surely he's worth a wee bit of ill-speaking?

    Too late.
As in a bit past his bed time? He’s now quite late, as in the Late Jean-Marie Le Pen… to paraphrase Slartibartfast.

May he enjoy the peace he was so very keen on depriving of others’.
