When did the modern C. neck originate. I have looked online and can't find any reference.

Perhaps Fender American standards with 9.5" boards when then came out in the 90's.

I think the 'C' neck originated in Southend and appeared at roughly the same time as the brass neck.

I think they first started talking about the "Modern C" as a specific shape when they went from the American Standard series to the American Series, which was late 1999 or early 2000.

However, I can't remember how they described the neck profile of the American Standard series - maybe it didn't have a specific description.  That would've been 1987 to 2000.

My MIM deluxe series is a 1999 model strat. It is classed as a modern C. Neck.
I didn't know how far Modern went back.
    Thanks for any more info.

It was just before the D-shaped neck was introduced. The U-shaped neck was much later, closely followed by the V.

A appeared in the late 60's as a nut width on basses, followed by B and C

Only Winny Pooh and Philly Q are being serious on this question. If I had wanted jokey replies I would have posted on Friday humour.

I think @WezV ; is being entirely serious (he can speak for himself) as the terms A, B, C D apply to Fender neck widths at the nut, as well as neck profile shapes.

I think Philly_Q is right - the second-generation USA Standards always had this type of profile, although it wasn’t called that at the time - so 1986 onwards.
