New Bitsa Bass Day!

What's Hot

It's sounding very nice - aside from the G string warbling on higher notes. I'm thinking that is probably a twisted string or the pickup is too high - I'll have to fiddle with that later.

It's got a 0.1uF cap so it goes super dark and reggae like when the tone is fully down. Pickup is my usual favourite passive P pickup - the Aguilar AG-4P being a 1960s recreation.

Genuine Fender jazz neck with a no-name body that is probably paulownia.

I always wanted a Jazz necked precision but most real Fenders are too heavy - this one is bang on 7lb and there is no neck dive at all.

Big thanks to @Paul_C for his massive assistance (aka doing 95% of the work!)

7lb ? That's very light. No neck dive?

    No neck dive at all.

Hipshot Ultralite tuners make a huge difference.

I'd really recommend the Gotoh 201B-4 if you're thinking of going for a new bridge (unless that is a new bridge) - Really nice bit of kit for £40ish.

I will have a look - the bridge on it is a very basic thing and I need to chop down the screws as they dig in my hand if I'm plectrum playing.

I like it. It looks loved, fettled and clean. I like the colour contrast.

I like the weight. It's 17lbs lighter than my TB-70.

The pickup is marked 'Guitar'. This need to be fact checked to prevent the spread of misinformation.
    I like your version best.

I'm pretty sure it says Aguilar.

    Aye.
I really like their pickups. Not cheap, but they always sound how I want and expect.

I'm already planning another build - that will have an Aguilar MM pickup in it that I already have.

New strings arriving today. Then it needs a rod tweak and the nut slots lowering by a mm or so.

I’m so used to quick change bridges that this one is annoying me a lot. So I’ll replace that when I have some money.

It is sounding like a very nice precision though!

In a brief bit of a dream last night I was ordering you a Mustang bass neck, preferably with a maple board, do you still want it ?

I've got a few parts bass & guitar projects and Fender MIM necks can be rather good.

Ive done the same, a no name P bass body and a fender j bass neck. Ever so slightly neck heavy so I will look at those lightweight tuners!
I might look at a PJ bass body and stick an @OilCityPickups Ric j bass pickup in it !

I just did a pair of Ric jazz bass pickups for a customer - mounted on the same/custom baseplate to make a humbucking Jazz Rick pair ... sounded bloody excellent actually ... I was surprised.

There are 2 types of Hipshot Ultralites - USA and Licenced.

The USA ones are a tiny bit lighter in weight and they can be swapped to right or left handed use. The Licenced ones cannot.

Compared to the tuners you'd get on a Player Series Fender, swapping all 4 tuners saves you about 1/3lb, and on a 5 string would have about 1/5 pound! When that saving is all at the end of the neck, that is a big difference on balance.
