I have two vintage VCs running with fx in stereo. Perfect home setup, lovely Fender tone with surprising amounts of low end for a smallish speaker. Find a good drive pedal and it's glorious

Ah ! ! apologies @Choivert, my mistake  . . . I had you confused with another chap . . Doh ! . .  I do remember we spoke last about Tremolo, amongst other things, and I mentioned that I used my Strymon Flint for Reverb as well as Tremolo . . . You said I should use the VC's Tremolo which I've now started doing  . . . Good shout, your absolutely right, it is lovely . . . I picked up a s/h Blackstar single button footswitch ( £10 ) and swapped the Jack Plug for a Phono Socket and " Hey Presto "  . . . its a winner :-)
Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !

@maw4neu apologies, I missed this. I'm really glad you are enjoying the trem in the vibro champ. As you say, it's a real winner, lovely and warm. I'm still using my VC clone with the Jensen speaker I got from you. As well as Princeton clone too. Princeton is nice at super low volumes but the VC is really enjoyable at volume with the tone cut removed.

I've got a warehouse WG8 alnico in my 78 vibro champ, significantly nicer sounding than the oxford that it came with.

I've heard really good things about Warehouse Guitar Speakers . . . .  I've not tried one yet though, but I can't see myself swapping out the Weber Signature Alnico that's in mine now  . . The original Ceramic Speaker was absolutely awful, it had to go . . . I'm quite partial to Jensen Speakers too . . .

On a completely different matter, I don't know if its the Christmas effect, but 70's Vibro Champs are advertised for "Bonkers" money these days . . . I wonder how many actually sell though :-)

  • I possibly overpaid a bit for mine, but it is a minter and with the original cover.

Me too . . . . I paid £725 for mine but I bought a new UK Mains Transformer as I soon got tired of using the Step Down Transformer it came with to convert UK to US Voltage . . . In truth, the US voltage Mains Transformer that was in my Vibro Champ wasn't original to the Amp. My VC is / was an Export Model so it had the Red Multi Voltage Selector on the rear but, according to the former owner, someone meddled with it and " Bang " it blew the original MT so the Amp Tech popped in a US Mains Transformer that he had lying around and he also sold the former owner a Step Down Transformer, double whammy :-)

I found this comparison interesting. There's an obvious level difference between the two speakers which he corrects for later in the video.

I have that same Jensen speaker in my Vibrochamp and it sounds very much like it does in the video. It might appear 'thin' next to the Warehouse but if you're recording it's absolutely perfect.

  • I have the G8C in mine too. I have tried the G8A too, but the C sounds better to me.
