I'm going on the Sunday with fiancée - mainly for a browse as I'm not exactly flush, and to meet Andy Guitar Geek as he's very kindly supplied a guitar string to be incorporated into my wedding ring! Want to give him a huge thank you and buy him a coffee (and he wants to try my PRS so I'm bringing that along too).

Congratulations. Just register the PRS at the desk when you arrive, otherwise, you will asked for a receipt for it on the way out

  • Still 50/50 whether I'll be there as we have a gig on the Saturday and I may end up being too hungover on Sunday but we shall see!
Just so people are aware. I have no idea what any of these words mean.

Booked in and going for the first time in a good few years, Can't wait. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for live music bars/events on the Saturday night as we'll be staying in Brum the saturday before going to the show sunday. Cheers!

Brum is poorly served these days for live music venues.

There are two O2s - the big one The Academy has terrible sound.

There is the Night Owl / Mama Roux's next to each other in Digbeth. There is a heavy metal bar / live venue on Digbeth High Street (I can't remember its name).

Scruffy Murphys, The Castle & Falcon, The Flapper, The Jam House, and The Asylum all have a mix of originals and covers.

Slightly further out Hare and Hounds in Kingsheath

I’m tempted to pop up at the weekend if the trains aren’t crazy expensive. Never been to a guitar show in 30 years of playing.

Looks like the train is pretty slow from London though :(

I used to play the Jam House fairly regularly, if you're into funk/soul/groove then it'll be a good shout with the Elle J Walters band. Bit of Chaka, bit of Aretha, Natalie Cole...you get the idea.

Not one to go for if you've got an early bedtime though, we used to start our FIRST set around 11pm-11:30pm-ish.

I'll be there on Sunday but as Albion are away it could be Saturday. There's a slight chance I may be in the market for a guitar, too. Hopefully I'll finally get to try a Dowina.
I'll definitely be there along with my co guitarist. For the first time in a long time I may have some money to spend too. Very much looking forward to it.

Don't be tempted to go from Marylebone - it can take forever

Euston to B'ham intl then a taxi to the venue - the last train I took was 1 hour 3mins

The Night Owl has a reggae fest 4-11pm on the Saturday featuring my favourite local band Lobster.
They have been filming the next series of Silent Witness in Digbeth although spotting Emilia Fox not guaranteed if you go.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.
