Given the number of acts involved I'm assuming nobody's going to do a long set.  I don't go to festivals nowadays but thinking back to the old Monsters of Rock days in the '80s, that was 6 or 7 bands in a day... and this is 10 or 11, not including the "additional performances" artists.

The current hoo ha over Ozzy only going to do a little bit is, well, from people who clearly had no idea what he was actually likely to do and it sounds like the day will be pretty much what we suggested on here when it was announced.
Aston Villa selling souvenir shirts with Ozzy on at £120, making some hay whilst this bit of sun shines.

I suppose one of the odd things about this event is that if the star turn is too unwell to attend or perform or has passed away the day will go ahead pretty much as planned anyway.

I wonder if you make an appearance in this little photo book?

No, I only went to 1980 (Rainbow) and 1981 (AC/DC).

It's actually a shame they couldn't find room for Tony Martin, Glenn Hughes and Ian Gillan (if he was interested).  I don't think they'd have invited Ronnie Dio or Ray Gillen either, if they were still with us.

That, presumably, is Sharon at work.  It's really an Ozzy final show rather than a Black Sabbath final show.
Ozzy’s voice is in better shape than Ian Gillan’s is these days.

Rival sons are amazing, but I couldn’t sit through the rest of the lineup just to see them ;)

I've seen people saying stuff like if you thought Ozzy was going to do 2 sets you're a fucking idiot, it was obviously only ever going to be a few songs and they knew what they were paying for.
I'm torn because no I didn't think he could do 2 sets, that's why a Black Sabbath gig wasn't on my 2025 bingo card.
Ultimately though they did put out a poster with a photo of original Sabbath at the top, all their names listed, under it says Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne separated as though it's 2 sets, and Sharon said he couldn't walk but his voice was just as good as ever.
Then after the tickets are all sold they say the equivalent of "lol no he's as bad as you thought he was, no guarantees what you're getting out of him".
Yep - my expectation - based on the poster and the announcement - was that it was going to be a full day event capped with the last ever gig by the original lineup, with a killer array of support acts.

To be honest I did have my suspicions that Bill Ward would only be making a token appearance - he's had health problems for a while, and there were rumours around the '13' album time that he was having memory issues, with Ozzy describing his drumkit being covered with Post-It notes to help him remember how to play the songs.

However, I really didn't expect that the front man of the group would only be appearing for a few songs and then handing the mic over to a conveyor belt of guest singers.  It'll be cool to see all of them doing Sabbath hits with the band, but if I'd had a major FOMO moment and maxed out the credit card to see the original Black Sabbath do one last gig, I'd be feeling like I'd just been taken for a ride.

Still - it is all for charity.

That's what I thought they'd do if he died, not if he was still alive.

As long as Sharon's alive, the machine rolls on.

Stick Ozzy in his throne, let him sing bits if he wants and is capable of it, then have the other singers do the heavy lifting in between doing their own material. Can't begrudge the guy a victory lap and nobody should be that surprised at the state he's in after sending Sharon to do the announcement.

You may or may not be any the wiser from that but essentially part of the day is a super group of sorts, so Corgan with Tom Morrello and Adam Jones in this example. Again, kind of what was expected.

I hope the whole thing is going to be filmed and broadcast somewhere, or made available on Blu-ray.  I expect it will be, in some form at least.  It may be a terrible mess, but it's quite an event.

Did he know it was his last day before he got there, or was it a direct result of getting there and chopping his fingertips off?

Apparently it was a really good metal factory and not sheet.

    [ahem]

I can’t remember the story as told by Tony but I suspect the last day element is embellishment. But having family who worked in various aspects of industry in the West Midlands (and having worked in steel stock once upon a time myself) it’s not hard to believe that the health and safety was crap.
