Electronic Press Kit

What's Hot

Anybody done one?  I need to pull my finger out and do one for my band, but not sure of the best way.  I'm considering a small website, but don't want to incur much in the way of costs (ideally none), and I'm wondering if a PDF with links might be an acceptable route?

If a website is considered the way forward, then are there any good free/cheap webhosts with good site builder tools?

We play punk pop type stuff.  Three piece of old gits.

Anything more than 1-page pdf won’t get read. And even then, the pdf probably won’t get read.

what are you trying to achieve with a press kit?

We've been told that in order to engage with promoters we'll need an EPK.  Pretty much everything is accessible through our Linktree page, so that covers most of what would be on an EPK really.

I’ve never met anyone on the diy circuit who’d want a press kit for gigs. If it’s reviews, then make the press kit about the specific release.

Either way, make a word doc with a bio, photos, links to a single or a video, any tour dates & contact info. Then save it as a PDF.

  • As someone who promotes the odd gig, decent (and recent) press pics are great, links to videos / releases you want to promote, snappy quotes from reviews you've had, any links to other bands your members have been in that might mean something to people, as well as a 'for fans of' tag. Just helps people write content a bit more quickly. Make sure your photos are in a publicly accessible Dropbox folder or similar.

Just means useful stuff… video, pics and info.

A YouTube channel, Facebook and a Google drive of docs and good images should do..

Maintained Facebook page (encourage followers and promote gigs on various local and regional music groups through events)
Promo style video with logo, good sound, engaged audience and keep it short.. possibly a 30-45sec collection of example tunes - pin best video/s to top of Facebook and YouTube
    Logo (inc. transparent .png version)
High quality pictures.. whole band, individuals
    Poster blanks
Short bio (can also use on email signature, Facebook and YouTube about pages) - include a link to your docs.

In a document folder on GDrive

    - One pager.. about info, fees, geographical range covered, quotes, notes on insurance and PAT, contact methods and links to media inc logo, promo clips and images (QR code can be added)
    - Current insurance doc
    - PAT test sheet
    - Sample set list
    - logo and image

We also have biz cards with links to media on back as QR and contact info. and leave those and the one pager at venues and with people. Also leave cards on tables at venues and ask for followers and comments at gigs..

One tip we found is to provide versions of your logo / branding that are compatible with both light and dark backgrounds as you never know what the gig flyers / posters made by promoters are going to look like. Transparent background versions are also handy.
