Any recommendations for a humidifier? I’m getting by with a rolled up tea towel on a radiator at the moment but probably need a better solution.

I’m guessing “Poor” will be the response but what are the £30 Amazon ones like? Will be for occasional use in the room where my guitars live.

I took a punt on one of the Amazon ones, it does the job but is a simple on/off tool. Ideally it would automatically operate in specific ranges but that would come at a higher price.

Humidity fell to 35% yesterday! I left the machine running overnight and I’ve just had an alert that it’s hit 65%.
A guitar doesn't care how good you are, all it asks for is it's played.

  • I live in an old damp cottage; even with 3 dehumidifiers running 24/7 it's usually around 60-70%.

I keep all my guitars in hard cases, so may not be too much of an issue.

Wouldn't take long for the cases to be exactly the same as the ambient air surely? If you heated one room a few degrees higher with the dehumidifier going you'd get lower.

  • Changes in humidity would happen much slower inside cases.

The room's radiator is usually off, so less direct heat.

Well, now it’s a typical mid-summer heatwave and the humidity inside has beem 67-70% for the last 3-4 weeks, so my acoustics have been inside their cases. No sign of this dropping, so I put my hygrometer inside one of the cases this morning, hoping it would be a bit drier in there… just opened it up now and it was 74%! I have long suspected that cases could be moisture traps, with all the foam and plush fabric.

I'm using a MeacoDry Arete Two dehumidifier to stay within +- 3% of a target range, and it can also be controlled via an app.

Been up at a consistent 70% for the last few weeks. It’s that time of year when the Atlantic storms start coming in every other weekend but I’m trying to hold off putting the heating on until October 1st! It’ll be a bit drier after then I hope.

70% outside, 56% inside. Pretty normal for this time of year in Tasmania.

That was my point - very wet weather and the humidity inside gets high because the heating isn't on yet.

it's very variable for a while now, even during the same day, mainly low 60s, but down to 53 and up to 70.  i put the good acoustic guitars in cases at 65 with the Humidipaks.

About 65% here in Oxfordshire but will drop as the room warms up.
