Martin D40 value

Long story short.  My daughter is a solicitor and needs to dispose of a Marin D40 and a Marshall amp as part of her legal duties in winding up an estate.

Apparently the guitar was insured for a few £k (she can’t tell me due to confidentiality).

I am trying to help her establish a rough value to see whether Gardner houlgate might be an option or whether she should use their normal channel as it’s not worth more than a few hundred.

A quick google suggests a few £k but any suggestions?

    I am sure others will also say this but for a guitar like that it depends a lot upon condition and playability. Is the neck straight with no issues, is the string gap at 12th fret good or does it need a neck reset. So many unknown variables it would be difficult to even guess at a price.

    I would think some photos and year of make would enable tFB cognoscenti to give a valuation. Neither would break confidentiality.

    This. The year could be established from the serial number stamped on the internal neck heel or on a label.

    I will if I can folks. Obviously I need to get to speak to my daughter and source the photos. I did tell her to look for a serial number. She said to her it looked in very good condition- no scratches, dings etc. but played by the deceased- finger marks, dust…. I will see what I can do

    A D-40 is one of the higher-end models as you probably know already. As long as it’s in good condition - it probably will be, models at this end of the range are not generally bought to be thrashed in pub sessions - and has no structural issues, it’s definitely well into four figures.

    Without knowing anything about the Marshall - is it an electric guitar amp? Acoustic amp? Old or modern? etc - it’s impossible to give any idea of a value, it could literally be under £50 to several thousand. One pic or even just the model name would narrow it down enormously.

    @ICBM ;
    thanks. Apologies, I was less worried about the marshall at this point - it’s unlikely to be any sort of prized vintage thing but I did ask for the model as it might (just) narrow that down a bit.

    i had no idea about the Martin but it sounds promising, thanks.

    The guitar could ideally do with an appraisal in person
