WTB: Cassettes! Lmk what you've got lying around

What's Hot
So for my upcoming birthday, my folks have got me a Walkman. I love the idea and I've wanted one for a little while as I want to start collecting physical music but in a more portable format than vinyl and a more obscure format than CD.

I've already amassed a few cassettes off eBay - Snap! (The Jam), Death to the Pixies (Pixies) and Gawn Ni Hywl Plis (Kings of Leon's Wrexham special edition of the new album).

If anyone has any knocking about, let me know. Never know what I might be in to!
Just so people are aware. I have no idea what any of these words mean.

I’ve got about 300 bootleg live shows on cassette in my loft - I used to collect them and had the first Sony Recording Walkman that I used to smuggle into venues, in particular Newcastle City Hall. I often wonder if anyone would want them just to re-use the cassettes.

Congratulations on choosing a barking mad hobby that will hopefully bring you much pleasure.
Are you after commercially produced tapes, or DIY mixtapes & recordings?

Hah! You're nicked my son. Bang to rights... No statute of limitations on music piracy in the UK  ;)
Have you considered that record labels that have a stable of established artists, might possibly be interested in some 'official bootlegs'  to add to their catalogue?
    Just a thought.

Haha. I did get stopped a couple of times going in when they found my recorder but I was so small and looked so innocent back then that they let me off. To be honest, the quality of the recordings isn’t great so I doubt they’d be much use to anyone other than nostalgia freaks.

Wait … you never made a mixed tape?

OP – I almost went down this rabbit hole too but decided to stop at CDs and LPs. That said, old Walkmans are great. I had the WM-2 for a short while and it sounded fab. It did lead to some serious GAS for those 80s models, though. I’m looking at the DD30 now and – oh my God – I really shouldn’t  :#

Digitised mine years ago and they live on my iPod which I think is great because it plays what I’ve got and doesn’t need a data connection

I started buying tapes again, as I do like buying physical media and they seem to take less space than CD's and records.

I've got into following bands on Bandcamp as a few metal bands seem to have new releases on tape.  I'm sure other contemporary bands are doing them too, I bought the new Dirty Three & Cure albums on tape too.

  • Yeah there's a few bands doing new music on tape - as I say I've got the new(ish) Kings of Leon album, and Sam Fender's new one is also available on cassette with a few alternate sleeve prints.

Sadly you are too late, I binned a load last year. Kept them for decades but just thought what’s the point. Too bad, I’d have preferred them to go to someone.

I guess it depends on the quality of your Walkman, but have you listened to a cassette on your Walkman yet? I had a top of the range one back in the day and eventually switched over to MiniDisc. I remember trying the Walkman when I moved house and was clearing out stuff and it was like night and day in comparison to the MiniDisc player. The Walkman was a great looking machine, but sadly it had to go. If your Walkman doesn't do it for you and you're still looking for quirky, portable music format, get a MiniDisc player.

If you are buying old pre-recorded cassettes be careful to keep your receipts as some go tight in the shell, which means they don't play well. It's a minority, but I've had a few.

If you would like a mix tape let me know. I have lots of blanks and could make one up for you... if you don't like the music you can always tape over it!

I have assorted official cassette versions of albums, complete with their minuscule graphics.

OPTION 1 - Provide a list of artistes who interest you. I can rummage through the drawers and try to find appropriate titles

OPTION 2 - Take pot luck.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.
