Hi, 

I am going to have a go at building a really simple tap tempo pedal. 

What is the name of the standard foot switches on pedals, cant seem to find them on the CPC site! 

maybe if i cant find them i shouldnt be building a pedal...

you want a SPDT (single pole double throw) momentary/non-latching switch.

For tap tempo I'd recommend this type:
