Hello!

We're a ska covers band in North Wales - Singer, Keys, guitar and bass. We have a saxophone player but would like more horns....if you want to do some BV's or percussion too then thats great....

We need a drummer...... a drummer who can play ska

We're a covers band exclusively - and play ska exclusively..... The Specials, Madness, Bad Manners plus some original Jamaican records from the late 50's early 60's - Prince Buster, the Skatalites etc......

We were an established gigging band pre covid and disbanded. Now we're trying to put it  back together - the plan is to practice once or twice a month and gig once or twice a month - it's fun and enjoyable

Thank you
James

Tis Skariad - or former Skaraid. We lost a few members in COVID and are trying to put something back together.

Graigaid was a great gig wasn't it? We played a few times (I think my profile pic is from the last one we did - and maybe the last one they did?)

I remember your band were great - you have a brilliant female singer ? If you don't mind me saying I remember your brilliant guitar playing.... and what I specifically remember thinking was this guy has got his tone dialled in beautifully... it moved from warm to biting depending on what you where playing.

Thanks for saying hello. I am James - the guitar player in Skariad.

Are you still playing @colourofsound ;?

Flipping heck, just realised I never replied to this. Is 6 months too late?

I'm actually the drummer in that band; our guitarist Alan has a lovely tone out of that late 60's 335 and a Mesa Boogie. And the singer is my Mum! haha. My Dad plays the bass. Its a family band!

We stopped for about 6 months as the guitarist had some family issues; but we've sort of started up again - although I'm not keen to gig drums beyond doing festival gigs. Hauling a kit into a tiny pub for £50 and no audience is miserable.

Wow - a real family affair!

How is the reactivation going then Chris? Are you gigging again? Practicing regularly?

We've made some progress....out of nowhere two months ago we found a great drummer from Colwyn Bay called Jon. He's a jazz guy but loves ska and is a great drummer. Makes all the difference. A band is only as good as its drummer. We've found another sax player and a trumpeter in recent weeks making a three piece horn section. We\ve played together 3 times now and have more rehearsals booked for the new year. After a long period of inactivity its suddenly coming together,

I can see gigs in the near future - but I completely relate to your point about £50 pub gigs...... I think we're hoping for quality over quantity this time round - clubs and festivals rather than anything that requires us to bring a PA!

Do you have anything coming up gig wise?

Hope you have a great Christmas - Santa bringing any new gear? Whats it like in a family band?

  • They practice once or twice a week, and I just drop in once a month. As it’s blues it’s pretty easy on the drums unless there is an arrangement that is particularly different.

Really I’m just trying to keep my hand in and it’s a great way to spend time with the folks. A family band has its ups and downs; but generally speaking it’s been pretty good. This is the second iteration of this band in one form or another and we’ve been doing it on and off for close to 15 years now!

Theres nothing on the cards gig-wise, and I think they will be few and far between - my interest in particular is pretty light and my dad’s not interested in hauling gear around anymore. Mum’s super enthusiastic, but she generally doesn’t help with the PA so ;)

I’d really like to get my own thing together again but my favourite drummer to play with is swanning off with The Joy Formidable so I can’t see that happening. Had other jams but nothing has really clicked for me.

Im getting back into composing again (check my sig ;) ) so not too fussed about it - but as you know finding the people is really tough; and then you have to organise them. Getting the pieces in place just hasn’t lined up for me and so I kind of stopped trying!

Have a great Christmas, and if you play in Chester let me know!
