I saw the Alarm when they opened for U2 at Cardiff Arms Park in ‘87…..I was so impressed I saw them several times live after that….RIP
Same here. I loved The Alarm from that point onwards, although not so much the later stuff. I saw him a few times solo, and in front of Big Country as well.

A couple of people above mentioned that they didn't know he was ill - his illness was reported quite frequently on BBC Wales, along with at least two documentaries, and one about his wife's illness. Updates on his illness were often enough and for so many years that I'd stopped paying them much attention, so it was with a lot of sadness that I saw the announcement yesterday.

I'm from Swansea but I've lived in England for 40+ years so I don't tend to keep up with the news stories from Wales, although I do occasionally watch something on iPlayer if it crosses my horizon.

I love the fact that Rhyl has had a statue of him down by the waterfront for many years.

My partner’s old school friend lives in Dyserth and knows/knew Mike and Jules very well. We had a plan to visit The Red and hopefully meet them… at least I got to see him perform once, not far from where he lived.

No criticism was meant, just that his progress seemed to be mentioned so often on BBC Wales that it became a bit of a running joke in my house. At times it felt like I knew more about about his illness than about that of members of my own family. (No criticism of MP, of course, more of local BBC constantly falling back on the same cliches and well-worn topics.)
