Wireless Ethernet connection question

Does anyone know if this will work. My parents have a skybox downstairs and the router is upstairs, they have a sky wireless connector connected to the skybox for on demand ok. Now I just bought them a sony bluray player and have hooked them up with netflix through the player which obviously needs an Ethernet connection. The sky connector only has one Ethernet output, that's the problem. Can I just buy a network switch, go from the wireless connector into the network switch then out to both the skybox and bluray player? Is there any reason this wouldn't work? I'd rather not have to spend another £40 on a different solution.

Not too sure about the Sky stuff but theoretically it should work. If you get a switch online and it doesn't work you could always send it back under the DSR. Another alternative might be Powerline adaptors between the router and the DVD player.

I've got exactly that arrangement with the powerline networking .... neat solution and Sky box works fine, wireless is too slow.

Get better wireless if wireless is too slow... from PC -> router -> Wireless Laptop I get 2-3ms ping

Also discovered that my BT router uses IPv6 addressing and that the ping command recognises IPv6

I get low ping and 60meg download over wifi.

True, but I live in a house like that.

I have two routers at opposite ends of the house, connected via ethernet.

Wifi is faultless.

My laptop is also about 7 years old so its not a very up-to-date wifi...

Nice 802.11ac setup should still be fast over a longer range

I have 802.11ac in my Macbook Air.

Still need to updated the router(s) though.

One unfortunate thing with the BT Hub 4 is that it's got internal antenna so can't strap on a bigger one (you know I think I've said that before). Have 2'+ long antenna on my wifi dongle, would like to have a more powerful antenna on the router.

Wonder if I could kludge it with a drill and some ingenuity

Can you run the BT router in modem mode?

I do this with the Virgin router- it improves performance greatly & I can use any router I like with it.

BT has a seperate DSL modem which does the work, so I could replace the whole thing for a better one... But that seems so defeatest

Bought these and after 18 months they packed up they were good when they worked
