Extending an interface with a Behringer UMC 1820?

I'm currently using a Behringer UMC 1820 as my interface. Great product for the money, but
a) I'd like more inputs, for various bits of gear I'd like permanently plugged in, rather than constantly patching/unpatching via my patch bay.
b) Loopback functionality

Now I could just get something like the Behringer ADA8200 to extend the number of inputs, or I could get another interface,
e.g. Presonus Studio 18/24, Audient EVO 16, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20.

With any of those interfaces, could I just connect these to the UMC 1820 via ADAT, disconnect the USB from the UMC and then have 16 channels at my disposal?

I have an ADA8000 and one thing i would note is that the pres are pretty noisy so i select what sources go on that versus the 18i20.

A Google search suggests that the UMC 1820 doesn't work as a stand-alone ADAT expander. So, no.

Guess I could set up an aggregate device (on Mac)

I'd heard this about the 8000. I had the 1820 and _8200_ (not the 8000), didn't notice mine being noisy.

I wanted more than 16 inputs, so ended up selling both.

As a pair it was quite good. It wasn't as "hifi" as my Prism Audio Lyra, but the limit was definitely my (very limited) engineering skills, not the interface.
