90%  of acoustic basses are rubbish. Not loud enough for most things, doesn't really sound like you would expect a bass too and just .... no.
 A cheap P bass will be better than any cheap acoustic bass and sound better too.

EBS Session combos are pretty damn good.  Not sure how they manage to elicit such warmth out of a ten inch cone in their Session 30 combo but there's no shortage of bass.
