I thought he’d already died a little while back. But then I remember that was Tim Sizemore. So I got to be sad about that all over again, too. Sigh. RIP.

Though I probably first saw him in Free Willy, he was superb in the Tarantino and other gangster films. Great actor. RIP Michael.

Last film I watched of his was "KIll Me Again" in tribute to Val Kilmer. Standard Madsen fare but you do get a sense of his raw physical power in playing those roles. RIP Mike.

Only 67. A great actor, I always found him to be slightly uncomfortably intimidating.

Nice words from his sister:

I don't know if he was ever a great actor, but he had a great face... menacing and intimidating but always with that slight smile. 

And he always looked about seven feet tall, although I think he was really just... pretty tall.

I've never quite been able to get my head round the fact that Virginia Madsen's his sister, there's almost no resemblance.  They must have each taken very much after one parent and not the other.
