I can’t afford £3000 for a Stingray Special so this was the obvious answer.

It was a Precision bitsa. Now with a new ‘plate, and Aguilar recreation of an original Alnico stingray pickup, and their OBP-2 preamp running at 18V, it sounds like a massively fat stingray. Currently strung with Dunlop flatwound strings.

Pickup placement carefully measured to match an original 1970s ray. The 2 band is a 70s recreation too.

An important note to anyone getting @Paul_C ;;to do tech work for you… do not leave bits of Lego in your gig bag. You’ll never know if he thinks he’s funny…

P-Ray sounds too much like pray and thus what a praise and worship bellend would name their bass.

P-Ray is the right name. Stingicision sounds too much like something Gordon Sumner had done when he was a boy…

To me, Sting-cision implies a 1954-57 style Fender bass with a single coil pickup and a T-style headstock.

Oooh this looks great, I have a cheapo Aria P-bass copy lounging around here that could be a fun candidate for this!

I have 1 high fret that is annoying, up at the dusty end but still needed when playing Stevie Wonder stuff.

I might try to gently hammer it in, in case it’s a little unseated. I don’t have any fret files.

If I ever have to watch In the Night Garden again I will probably have a breakdown. It was such a relief when they got to Phineas and Ferb!

A couple of Faith No More covers would do it.

And Ninky-Nonk, which would have to be the fretless version. (No P :).)

I learned to play the theme music on guitar when my kids were small, they loved it. I don't think I can remember it now though.

Finally got round to doing a couple of vids with it.

Same song, recorded 4 times with 4 different bass tones in a little playlist

    1: SVT 4 Pro
    2: Aguilar Tonehammer
3: Joe Dart super compressed (but with new roundwounds rather than his usual old flats)
    4: Fat DI tone.

Bass EQ settings are Lows boosted maybe no more than 1/4 turn of the pot and the treble up even less and are all the same apart from on the Aguilar where the low end was overpowering, so that is backed off a little - just beyond the centre detent.

I think the Tonehammer suits this song the best with the SVT a close second.
The JD tone is ok but reducing the treble would have been better and using flats.

The Fat DI tone is usually quite clean and warm with other basses but the output on this bass is mad and it's turned it really fuzzy.

My best mates band once opened a pub set with the theme tune from the Flumps, that's how old I am.

Just call the thing Corporal Sergeant Stingray the third and have done with it!
