Dogear p90s - lower bridge cover?

What's Hot
Hi all,

Still plugging away at a Jr DC i got that's needed a ton of little improvements. I've finally managed to get the bridge low enough to have a good action (it's been built off a kit, and clearly the neck angle is too shallow, so that was a nightmare)... but now, the strings are really too close to the pickup! On the higher side (the one facing the neck), there's only about 1mm between the string and the corner of the pickup cover, so that the low E rattles against it if I dig in a bit while I play. The dogear base itself is very thin, so I've considered sanding a slight incline into it but I wouldn't get much at all there.

I've seen some manufacturers do an angled bridge p90 cover, but by the diagrams that's still about as tall as a normal one, and too tall for me; and the very thin covers for neck pickups have a different polepiece spacing... what to do?

    1. Remove the neck and reset.
    2. Rout a cavity for the dogear to sit a little lower
    3. Use a soapbar P90 and adjust it lower

Covers are cheap, sand it to be more angled and see what others are online.

The first two would be great, but I don't have the skills or equipment to do that, AND the guitar is nowhere near valuable enough to pay for a professional to do those. I might consider a soapbar conversion.

You could also reduce the thickness of the top face of the cover, should easily be enough to take a mm off it.

That would be easiest (apart from buying a Slide!  ) you could countersink the Dogear holes in the body and pop the screws back in to keep it relatively tidy…..

There are reasonably priced Soapbars out there

I had a JJ Nicholls LPJ for a while and that has a Vac Formed cover on the Dogear which was very thin and might work for you, God only knows where you would find one though, I replaced mine, but have no idea what I did with the Vac formed one, Ive gotta go in the loft later so Ill have a dig around…
    Edit
Been in the loft had a rummage, no joy, sorry

Seymour Duncan Antiquity covers are vacuum formed but might not be any lower.

How high is the cover? I have a couple here that may be lower profile.

Dogear neck pickup covers are 5mm tall rather than 11mm.  Might be able to get a blank one and drill it or mod one of the normal ones to suit

    It's the standard, 11mm one.

I've got one that's 10mm but someone (not me!) "aged" it
