Starts out with a 'line cliche' in the bass.
It Ain't Over: I Imaj7 I9 IV6 IV
Nudging the progression up a semitone from C# to D gives: | D | Dmaj7 | D9 | G6 G |
Full 'line cliche' in the middle voice...aside from the groove, the borrowed D9 and G6 make it more funky/soulful/gospel.
Certainly some similarities there.
