Gig bag recommendation

What's Hot
I need a new gigbag for my Strat and Tele. Any recommendations for a good one? It only goes in the car so don't need anything too heavy duty but still want to protect my guitars. I can't justify a Mono - looking for something under £100 - closer to £50/60 ideally

I’m not sure about their electric guitar ones, but I got a TGI Extreme for my acoustic bass for around £60 - it was the only one big enough! - which seems pretty good. Not quite Mono level of protection or strap adjustability, but not bad at all.

I’ve got a few TGI Extremes for my electrics (Strats and a Tele) and am pleased with them. Plenty of padding and hard-wearing. Would recommend.
Don’t even look at it! Don’t touch it! Don’t point even...ok, you’ve seen enough of that one.

Thomann do some premium gig bags. I’ve been eyeing this one up…

  • If you can stretch a bit or fnd a used one the Gator Pro are (IMHO) the best out there without getting a hardcase.

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.

  • Just looked and the TGI Extreme ones look good. Is there on in particular that fits a Strat/Tele?

I bought mine a while back but seem to recall it was just sold as TGI Extreme Series Electric Guitar gig bag.

  • Protection Racket did some great ones, Tribal Planet too.

  • Used to have a few Ritter gig bags for several years. Love my Mono though. Had it for about 3 years and still looks brand new so I think the upfront investment pays off as I can see myself having this bag for over a decade.

  • I've got a Fender FE1225 for my Tele. It's not as good as my Mono bags but it's still very protective.

  • The older PRS SE gigbags are really good and sometimes come up second hand.

I have this one and think it’s great. Decent pocket on the front and internal pocket for strings/picks/pliers etc. Nice and light too. I take it to practices and gigs with no problems. It has metal loops on the back I guess are for attaching shoulder straps to as well but I’ve never tried that.

Do you get what you pay for or are all those bags that look the same (Mono, TGI etc) about the same?

My experience is that Mono, Fusion, Etc offer more protection than TGI but are a lot more spendy. TGI are probably more than adequate for most people. I take a guitar or two in the back of my car to pubs or rehearsals a few times a month. However, all my instruments are S or T-types which are reasonably robust. If I was toting a Gibson, or touring internationally then I’d want something better.

They aren’t the same. I’ve got two Monos and a TGI - the differences are in the level of outright protection, the comfort and adjustability of the shoulder straps, and the extra pockets. The Monos are better in all three ways… but they’re three times the price, and they’re certainly not three times better - maybe 50% better. I’m still very happy with my TGI, it does the job I need it for perfectly well.
