    That's fantastic!

  • Excellent work all round!

I've done a few PCB builds, P2P appeals for the sheer coolness factor but I can just imagine how burned my fingers would end up getting :-D

Noob questions: what's the chunky dull-coloured wire used for the 9v rail in the P2P builds?  And in the tagboard build how are the standoffs fixed to the side of the case?  Screw through from the outside?

Buss wire (think they one I used was 1.8mm)

  • Thanks @Jim54.

First time I saw such a build I thought it looked like a section of a wire coat hanger, but felt sure that couldn't be right...

    Now that's a good idea! :)

Yes, exactly that.  They are M3 threaded spacers (F-F) attached with slotted pan head screws

I like the Zonk build as well! I've got a copy of a Shatterbox which I believe is a Zonk with a built in switchable boost and it's an unusual but very useful fuzz sound.
Yeah ditto- it's a Zonk II in the Shatterbox, isn't it? I think the Zonk II is 2 transistor (more like a Fuzzface) while the original Zonk is 3-transistor (more like a Tonebender Mk II). (I hope I don't have that backwards!)

I'd say the same about the treble booster in it ("unusual but very useful")- it sounds a fair bit different from a Rangemaster, but still very nice.
Ah I didn't know that,  might have to try a v1 Zonk at some point then.
I haven't tried one either unfortunately. Now I'm thinking of it, maybe it's closer to a Mk1 Tonebender? (Which is also 3-transistor.)

The topology is mk1 tonebender, different sound due to tweaks. Though I’ve not played a mk1 tonebender

Thanks :) Yeah I've seen a few Mk1s with switchable input caps to also sort of give you the Zonk tone too- it's a while since I looked at the schematic so I might be misremembering, but I think there's a bit more difference than that, but it presumably gets you closer at least...

Yeah there’s some resistor value changes and an extra resistor as well
