^ It is the only way.

IMHO being in control of your own images (including being able to delete them) is important. And you only get control by paying.

I'll accept that it complicates things for forums like this one.

Just a little note, if you are using other hosting methods, check whether the hosting strips out the EXIF data of your photos.

IMGUR does that, and it removes all the tags, such as GPS location.  You can see where i am going with this, guitar forum, lots of expensive stuff etc.

Very good point @RaymondLin.   For those that don't know about EXIF data, digital cameras and smartphones insert "tags" into the actual image file and save some details against them that generally stay with the image file even if it is modified, reduced in size, cropped, etc.  The content of these tags are readable by most image viewing and editing apps and programmes and they contain details of the camera and lens, whether flash was used, the orientation of the photo, the time and date the photo was taken, and a host of other details referred to as "metadata" that can be useful for jobs like automatic sorting by programmes.  By default most cameras and smartphones will, as Raymond mentioned, add the GPS coordinates that can be extremely accurate and pin-point your house on a map very easily.  Most image editing programmes allow you to view the EXIF data and many allow you to completely remove it, but the menu options to do this varies between programmes.  On a Windows computer if you Right-Click on an image file, choose "Properties" and then look under the "Details" tab (may be different in Windows 11) you can see a lot, but probably not all the EXIF tags and I don't think it shows the GPS coordinates.  On a Mac you apparently open the image in Preview, select Tools, select Show Inspector, and click the Exif tab.  I have no clue about how to do this on a smartphone or whether you need an additional app.

I set my Lightroom to export with only copyright data, which is my name and website.

I always remove GPS location.  With the phone, iPhone at least, every photo is geotagged by default.  Going into the photos app and click on the map and it will show where they all are.  You can zoom in and see it very accurately.

In each photo you can click the little i icon at the bottom and it will bring up all the details.

But surely VPN will just give you access to your images. You can't share them on forums?

The VPN solution requires everyone to use a VPN.

The subscribe option doesn't, and neither does the have-your-own-domain-and-hosting one.
Never forget that you are wearing your invisible tiara.

A slight silver lining... the various fuckwits who send me spam emails every day seem to use Imgur.  Everything I received today said:

Just for info (or not). Using a VPN to post stored Imgur images here works fine & they are viewable to me after switching the VPN off and also to some users here, but... still apparently not showing for everyone.
How the hell it is possible to work out what is viewable for others, given all browsers etc. is impossible.
I'll be subscribing here (I know, I know but I have had stuff going on...) so this will go away soon.

Presumably they’re cached on your device, hence still visible when off-VPN.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Yes, that'll be it. Cacheing seldom works in the users favour  ;)
