Acoustic guitar budget £800

What's Hot
Advice appreciated guys.
I’m looking into buying an acoustic with a budget of up to £800. It would be played at home on the sofa so I’d prefer a comfortable size like a GA type and on board electronics don’t matter too much as I’d be just strumming for my own amusement.
A used Taylor 214 or Yamaha LS16 would be just within budget or an Eastman AC222 new, which is all solid (is that a big concern for a home player?).
I’ve not played any of these, or many acoustics tbh, which would be the better guitar for the budget?
Are there any other guitars I should take a look at?

You can get a used Furch Blue series for that money, it's just a matter of deciding whether your prefer spruce or cedar and keeping an eye out.
I don't think you'll get a better built or sounding guitar for the money.

You might even find one of their Vintage series if you're lucky, which are really quite special in my opinion

Maybe smaller than you're looking for but I was in the same predicament wanting something for home use that I could just pick up and put down at will. Ended up with a Taylor GS Mini, bang for buck very hard to beat, used but excellent condition cost me 300 notes. Add another 50 to 100 on top if you want electrics.

Furch! Strongly recommend looking one out. Had one for 7 years and never been tempted for anything else.

My son bought a Yamaha Red Label FG3 and I must say that sounds fantastic and is great to play.  My acoustics are way more expensive but I'd be more than happy playing his.  Mann's have one at just over £800 at the moment.  They also do the FS3 if you want a smaller body but they seem to be a little more expensive.

  • I have an Yamaha LS6 as a home guitar and can't fault it. The size is perfect, it is still relatively deep for a parlour but it does make it sound fuller and is by no means unwieldy. The LS16 should be even better

Definitely worth looking at Guild: https://guildguitars.com/guitars/acoustic-guitars/westerly-collection/

I think all the USA made ones new, are over budget. But the Westerly (Made in China) collection is well within your budget.

I remember @Wazmeister being really happy with his Guild DS-240 a couple of years ago: https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/comment/3575493

Ive got a furch blue om mm, i had a Taylor ad27e beforehand. Found it a bit boomy for home use and never used the pickup.
The furch is one of those guitars I can lose hours on.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

I got a Furch G-CM a few months back and I'm still in the honeymoon phase - I've not had a nice acoustic before but I really like it.

A Guild is a great call - I always thought they looked cool but I’ve never seen one in person. They have a cool headstock design. I think Slash played one?

furch is a new one to me, I’ll check these out.

Thanks for the advice so far

Does anyone play an Ovation just acoustically?

+1 for a Furch Blue.  Way nicer than the (much) more expensive Taylor 314 it replaced.
Wanted:  Bad Cat Cub IIR, Hiwatt Custom 20, Rothwell pedals

I used to - My friends and I had one each and would just play at eachothers house. They play closer to an electric guitar with a nice boat neck profile, but they're not as loud as a normal shaped acoustic.

Another vote for a Furch - sonically mine, now sold, was on a par with my Brook. But at half the price  Only sold because I couldn't justify having two very similar guitars.

You should be able to get a decent second hand Furch for your budget.
A guitar doesn't care how good you are, all it asks for is it's played.

I know they were very popular at one time but I’ve always thought Ovation acoustics have a thin, quite artificial tone. Oddly though, the nicest acoustic neck I’ve ever played was on an Ovation. Lovely V profile and very comfortable, especially if you mainly play an electric.

I have a Chinese made Guild jumbo 12 string and they’re very well made and excellent bang for the buck, so well worth a look.

I treated myself to an Eastman AC122 and I’m very happy with it.
Perfect size, not a dread/jumbo fan, excellent quality build and it sounds great.
Nothing else at even a couple of hundred quid more was even close
