Dead spots seem quite hard to anticipate - there's the classic one on Fender type necks that's usually around the 7th fret D on the G string, but then I had a through-neck, medium scale Aria with the same dead spot.

Yeah, I've had dead spots on Musicman bass necks, but those are the only ones I can remember. A friend had a Nordstrand bass with a deadspot on the 8th fret of the G, so same area for some reason.
