Turns out guitarists aren't the only people obsessed with tubes.

I keep one for light-gun games. Lethal Enforcers with two guns on the SNES is brilliant! The guns don't work with modern TVs.

According to the article a lot of the people that are looking for old CRT monitors are gamers keen to recreate the memories of their gaming experiences.  When I found a number of other articles about this trend, ironically the majority of the people pictured using them for gaming weren't yet born when CRTs were phased out and have grown up touching screens rather than pressing buttons.  It's another fad of rediscovery really, just like people that are too young to have bought, handled and played a cassette tape or vinyl disc discovered them and created a resurgence of the old technology.  I'm not against this at all, but I just find it quite funny to think about.  At least the monitors didn't find their way into landfill in their entirety, and by the time they do finally break down irrepairably they will be stripped down and at least some of the parts will be recycled.  I'm going to see if I can wire my 8-track cassette player through my 8 grand Bang & Olufsen system.

I remember when I first got rid of my old crt monitor for a flat screen, and thinking the picture was much worse. The main advantage was the amount of space it saved, and the lighter weight. It was worth the compromise.

A 21" crt monitor back then took up most of your desk space and weighed a tonne.
