Adverts Covering the Whole Screen

What's Hot
Hi folks.

Is anyone else having issues with ads on the site covering their whole phone screen after a few seconds of looking at any thread or menu page?

It’s relatively new, but is happening all the time now for the last month or so. I have to click the ad options and select “Ad Covers Content” but then I just get a new one right afterwards. It completely fills the screen so I can’t see anything when it happens and I’ve all but stopped visiting the forum now because of it.

Is there a fix or something so that the ads just appear at the top and bottom like they used to?

I’m using Chrome on an iPhone if it’s any help.

Thanks,

Andy

Are you trying to use the desktop view on a phone? If so, you can switch back to the mobile view. The desktop view is only supported on computers and tablets. It doesn't work on phones because the screens are too small.

Have you looked at this thread: https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/287917/where-has-mobile-view-gone

I had the same issue using the “full site” in my iPhone, started early Oct. Switching to “mobile site” resolved it, but I really don’t like the mobile site functionality. Paid for a subscription and the issue has gone. TBF, I should probably have been a subscriber anyway, as I use and enjoy the site a lot.

    Ok, thanks. This helps.

Yes, I’m using the desktop site on my phone as I really don’t like the mobile site, to be honest. I’ll see how I get on.

I've having issues with images appearing in the top left of the screen, not embedded in posts.

    Could this be related?

This is only on Chrome, btw. Looks OK in Safari.

This is what it looks like in Chrome:

  • @robinbowes - that's incredibly weird, I can't even reproduce it. Perhaps clear your cache?

I've also found photos in some classified ads are now becoming huge and I cannot even read the ad. Am using a big samsung tablet, so reluctant to switch to mobile mode. Update: mobile mode doesn't fix it

Same here. Anything in the thread like pictures or videos is full size on the top left of screen. Makes threads with pictures unreadable. Only started happening today.

Happens to me on an iphone using safari.   As you scroll down the page, the ad's get bigger until they take up the whole screen.
All fine using chrome on the same phone.

  • OK, back to Chrome: it 'thinks' the image is where it should be - you can click the blank space in the post where it's supposed to display, and the image will open - but it's actually displaying at the top left.  Plus, you can click the links behind where the picture is displaying.

The mobile site seems to work ok for me, but I’m barely reading the forum now as I don’t really like the mobile site.

Guys, if you're reporting problems then I need to know:

    - The browser
    - The device
    - Screen resolution, if it's happening on a computer (laptop or desktop)
    - Whether you've cleared your cache or not
    - If it's happening on specific pages (eg classifieds with images), a link to an example

I can't guarantee that I'm going to be able to fix it, because I don't have tons of devices here to be able to test (only Android phones, on which it works perfectly normally), but I'll try.

Worthy of note is the fact that nothing in the stylesheet has changed since last year, so whatever's going on here...it's a change in browser behaviour. That makes it much more difficult to figure out, so it might take a while.

Ohhh...holy shit. I've always used a variant of Chrome called Thorium (it's faster and more memory-efficient) which is always based on the most recent Chrome. Just installed vanilla Chrome 142.07444.59, and the image layout is completely broken.

    WTF.
