He did have principles, just that I vehemently disagreed with all of them... until recently when he encountered genuine corruption & evil & called it out for what it was.
Too little too late, but he eventually stood up & was counted on the side of basic decency. RIP

RIP to a politician from an era we now look back on fondly.

Reminds me of Hesseltine - an old Tory you hated back in the day who now seems kind of a hero.

Maybe sometimes you'd rather not have principles. You could argue that Cheny caused far more death and human misery than trump has so far, despite not being a fraudster, rapist and general vacuous piece of shit.

Sadly that's how I feel about many political figures from 15 years or more ago, including many I hated at the time.  I genuinely thought we would surely have better in the future.  Well, we know better now.
